I Know it's my Choice BUT...

Thank you. So are you thinking that if I work hard I can do a lot better than the average?

I know with that comes the possibility of not doing as well as the average too.

Congrats on your accomplishment!

Just curious Holly - you've lost and kept off 98lbs with the sleeve but revised to add the DS?  Why?

i revised to the Ds because I couldn't lose any more weight and I am still obese.

I wanted to reach my goal and be in the normal BMI category and then be able to maintain that weight.

I did EVERYTHING  to continue to lose and it just wasn't happening.

Wow, I totally get it Holly.  I seem to be weight loss resistant as well enlightened.  I get this is who I am for the rest of my life though.  But I'm thinking you must be kind of short to be in the 140's and obese - Oh, just saw that you are 4'11 and how beautiful you are too!!!.  It's funny I could be like 175 and still look small.  I'd kill for the 140's - guess I should get off of my big arse!!!

Anyways I hope you are loving your DS.

All Best,

L

Yes  I am 4 11 and thanks for the compliment. :)  I think the years of yo yo dieting just whacked out my metabolism and it may never recover.  The last 6 months before i had my Ds, I was eating ONLY dense protein, eggs and healthy fats, and very few leafy greens. that is ALL< seriously.   I am addicted to carbs so they are very low  for me. Even eating this way i only lost 6# in those 6 Months.

I was going to Mx to have a hiatal hernia repair anyway and thought it was a waste of a trip and an anesthesia event for two staples  to repair the hernia so just decided to go ahead with the DS.

According to those infamous insurance height and weight charts,I should weigh between 95- 115# for my height.. I chose 100# cause it was in the middle but we shall see.

I am loving my Ds but it was definitely harder to get used to that my VSG alone was. I have about got it figured out now though.

Don't rely on that 50-60% number I have lost 89% of my excess weight which was 126 lbs.  It all depends on how committed you are to this change.  I love having sleeve but a friend of mine had bypass the same day same surgeon (that's how we met) and she says she doesnt think sleeve would have been good for her but I have been around when she eats and she eats really fast and still eats almost a whole full sized meal and then throws up almost every time she eats so as much as I love her I am not sure she will be able to keep the weight off this time.  She complains of the nausea and other issues from the bypass and she has been in and out of the hospital a lot in the last 2 years since surgery.. I wouldnt say you have to go with one or the other but if you work the sleeve its the best tool in the world if you continue to eat the way you did before then its not worth doing any of it in my opinion.  You have to be committed to YOU and you will know what is right for you just go with your gut LOL no pun intended.

My heaviest was 450 lbs which a truck scale told me so in 2007 I decided I had to change. I lost about 125 lbs over the next year but in 2009 I got pregnant with my first child and took the best care of myself I knew how which lead to me losing weight and getting down to 280.  But that was short lived and with in about 4 months I was back to 325 and pregnant again. I lost again but again was quickly gaining when I asked for help from my doctor.  I met my bariatric surgeon for a consult on June 26 2011 and on September 13 2011 I had gastric sleeve.  Since then I have lost 134 lbs and had another child.  Currently I eat "Clean" and do not take any type of medication or vitamin.  My body is healthy and strong, I get all the vitamins and calcium I need from my diet and my doctors are happy with my success and lifestyle changes and so am I.  My goal was always to be healthy so I wanted a healthy weight based on BMI.  My goal weight was 164lbs.  I surpassed that and got to 150lbs but was too skinny and now am comfortable around 160.

Thanks for sharing! You're absolutely right, it's the commitment that counts. Just out of curiosity, have you mentioned your concerns to your friend about her eating habits? I know I'm one to talk. (LOL) But I did read that she can end up having problems with her esophagus because of this, not to mention stretching her pouch.

Don't know what's best for you.  Just as a reference point. I'm 4'11' and started at 327.  I had an rny almost 4 years ago and lost 200 lbs (roughly 94% of my excess weight).  Do your research and you decided what's best.  Nobody can do it for you.  When you're ready, go for it.

Wow! That's awesome! Thanks for the reference point. I don't think I'm ready yet. I will be soon but I have to get my mind right as to not waste the opportunity that so many people wish they had. It just wouldn't be right. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I need to et a lot better with my habits now so that when the "honeymoon" phase is over, I'll be able to maintain. I never want to be in this position again.
