Where are you ancient and successful WLS recipients ?

My FIL 's sister had BPD over fifty years ago in Bakersfield , California . It was NOT experimental then but was performed routinely and was covered by insurance , leading me to conclude that probably a LOT of them were done .
I also know people who had RNY on the EAST coast thirty plus years ago and since I've known them since I was a teenager , the surgery was probably may actually have been performed over forty years ago ..
I'd really like to hear from some really old DS recepients how theyre coping with the worsening vitamin absorption that comes with aging , how their fellow DS recipient patients /peers have fared anecdotally ( are they still alive ) ?
I think ALL Of us can benefit from this real-world experience because though DS is the most effective and invasive WL tool , RNYers too have vitamin malabsorption to a lesser degree forever . I'm also very curious about your ability to eat increasing amounts ... which would imply a gradual stretching of the sleeve .
Have you and your surgery peers suffered any regain ? How many times have you had what you consider surgery related complications , were they serious , could they be resolved or have they affected your ongoing quality of life? Would you do it again ? What do you think are the lifestyle changes that helped you succeed and stay healthy this long ? ((((()))) Thanks !

I Tried but I don't know how to do it . Maybe you could please do it FOR me onto the DS forum , the lightweights forum and maybe the fifty-plus forum ? Thanks ! The answers should prove very interesting and informative if we get some :) . Not everyone in that generation even KNOWS of OH .

You just long onto whatever forum you want to post on, and do exactly what you do on the MB.

The place to really reach out to these long term folks is California and New York OA boards - there are some meetings every three hours at a site called TRG on the net but I usually can't manage the time to attend them . But those online meetings do draw a lot of dedicated old timers many of whom had bariatric surgeries many years in the past - what makes it even more complicated is noone is encouraged to talk about these surgical solutions in a twelve step group lol.
And I really think many of these real old time folks never heard of OH or imagine that online bariatric support boards can and do exist .
Right now I'm going absolutely nuts trying to post because my roadrunner or this sites servers isn't allowing editing , it makes typing stop mid-post .. I'm going BANANAS. But OA is where I met almost all the really long term bariatric patients I know ... and the surgeries didn't work for many ( of course that's why they may still be attending OA meetings ) .
I also knew a lot of people that died ... maybe not for WLS related reasons but I'd sure like to hear why the successful ones think they're still here and why they believe they've managed to keep the weight off if of course they have .
Its awesome to hear from U Bette - I miss B-FEST !!
