I know this not one of the most pleasant topics but I was wondering If I'm alone out there??????? I'm almost 5 weeks post op from RNY and it seems as if my deoderant is not working anymore. I don't know whats going on or what to do. I have been using this deoderant for 7 years and never had a problem. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks in advance for posting your reply. Kristie Marie~

Okay I'm only 17 days post-op and haven't been having this problem so I'm taking a guess here... I'm assuming it could be because of your hormones changing? Can you try something different, maybe a little stronger?

You are not alone. This means you are in ketosis and your body is burning fat. It does get better the more foods you start eating. I was wondering the same thing and for awhile there was really glad that I am single again!

Kristie, Very Common. You're not alone. It has to do with your body burning up the fat And staying in a state of Ketosis. It's just like the "Atkin's Diet Stench." You can try Intermint, which help with The smell of gas as well, or Try Nullo, a chlorophyll tablet Which neutralizes body odors. Also try bathing with Hebiclens and or Betadine, to kill off any normal bacteria That could turn your natural body oils and Perspiration into BO. Those are my favorite reliable tricks, I'm sure others will have some as well. Best Wishes- Dx

Dx, I am 5 days post-op...could use some info about Keotosis... Could this odor thing also include bad breath? I am not having any body odors that I know of except for when the normal gas or maybe even urinating in the toilet, I think there is that really bad smell ( sorry if this is TMI) but could the bad breath come from Keotosis too? I thought I would ask somebody on here that has been through it all and has great experiences and success. Also, this is sorta embarrassing to ask, but it is a question about urine ( sorry ) but is the color supposed to be an orange like color? Thank you Dx. I have a lot of respect for you and your success and knowledge to help us newbies along this journey. Best Wishes to you and your family this Holiday Season! Sooner in OKC Lap/RNY

Sooner Fan, Sorry for the super long delay- But yes. Ketosis typically gives you Vampire Breath as well. A very "Urine-like" smell, or some describe it as Rancid meat. It's just your body running on Ketones rather than Normal Blood Glucose levels. I used sugar free mints, a tongue scrapper, and chewed a lot Of sugar-free gum, until my diet leveled out to include A balance of carbs as well as proteins. As your body slows down burning the fat, As you get closer to goal, The odor tapers away to none existent. The same thing happens to Atkins Dieters, Not to worry, It's easy enough to compensate with Mints and such. Best Wishes- Dx

Good question. I was wondering why all of sudden my deodorant was not working. I thought the thinner I got the better it would be. 4 months out and still not better yet. Karin

And I thought this was just a problem I was having. What a relief. I changed deoderant and this seems to have helped some. Lizzi
