I know many people here ofter advise against ANY drinking, BUT.... I really would like to have a wine cooler at my Daddy's Birthday Party next month. I went to the store to "inspect my options". See, I have always been a Vodka drinker ( pre-surgery) Now I'm at a lost for choices. Any suggetions. By that time I will be about 9-10 weeks out from my RNY. I have not attempted any booze at all. Mostly cause I cant find any Nutritional Information on the wine coolers. I relly cant locate this info anywhere. All I really want to know is the sugar content. Can anyone help me out. I just want to find something to sip on at the party, BTW I am very allergic to Tequila, so no Margahritas for me. So, sugar contents on wine coolers or "malt beverages" = great apprciation. Or else I will be sucking on Bloody Marys all night. Thank you--Dollmouth

THe only thing I can tell you is to go to the beverage's website and see if you can get the information that way. I know that I do not as a rule drink alcohol, but last night I had a tiny shot glass of Red Raspberry wine and just about fell out of my chair and it took me 30 minutes to drink it! Alyson

This is the nutritional content of a Seagram's Wine Cooler.. such as Berry or others.. Calories 221 ( Kilojoules 923 ) % Daily Value* Total Fat 0 g 0% Saturated Fat 0 g 0% Cholesterol - 0% Sodium - 0% Total Carbohydrates 34.6 g 12% Dietary Fiber - 0% Sugars - Protein 0 g Note: A dash indicates no data is available No sugar.. but the carbs are high and I would think it would be a bit too high for you.. What about a mikes hard lemonade or something? I know that drinking after surgery is frowned upon, but you might be able to find something you can sip on. I was out 3 yrs before I attemped a drink, ( not a drinker, Company xmas party) I took a glass of wine and diluted with my water 3x. that is 1 wine to 3 H2O. I had 3 glasses of wine total, or 9 waters. This was over 5 hours, I had a good time.

You will be glad I stop by to read your post I drink vodka because I was told it wasnt made from sugar and it is made with potato... I knew a woman who had the surgery who told me that you can drink vodka.. Here is how I make my drink it;s so gooddddddddddd I take siera mist caffiene free sugar free let it sit open all day so it gets all the carbonation out... Then I put a shot of vodka and 4 oz of SM squeeze freash lemons and add a couple frozen strawberrys.. its so good and even better when you blend it.. and my doc said it was ok as long as I didnt over do it.. and I dont... I have gone out to the bars and I get a shot of absolute vodka and have them out ice in a tall glass with 3 oz of sprite or siera in it yes soemtimes its sugar but I let the water dilute it a little and I add the shot and squeeze lots of lemons and it goes down just fine... hope that helps Iknow there are some on here that dont drink and would think it is a bad thing but for those of us who are social butterflys and enjoy being around partys and mixing and mingling with a drink in hand this might work for you...

Morning Dollmouth... The only thing I could find for you was the nutritional value in a glass of wine. Amount Per Serving (3.5 ounces) Calories 79 Calories from Fat 0 Total Fat 0.0g0% Cholesterol 0mg0% Sodium 6mg0% Total Carbohydrates 3.3g1% Sugars 1.9g Protein 0.2g Vitamin A 0% ? Vitamin C 0% Calcium 1% ? Iron 2% If you add some club soda, ice and a splash of lemon...a spritzer would be a really refreshing summer drink. The sugar content is very low, which makes it perfect for sipping. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Kim K.

Well, I have wondered the same thing myself. I am 4 months out and went to a B day party for a relative this weekend... I really wanted to have a drink.... althought I am not a drinker at home, I will at parties or special occassions..... so they had NOTHING SF, because I was thinking about a SF seven up or sprite with some Seagrams 7..... I was afraid what the sugar would do to me, so I got a shot of Tequilla instead.... not something I normally get... I drank 1/2 of the shot.... It felt lke it hit me almost instantly.... maybe it was 10 minutes... but all of a sudden I felt DRUNK... totally falling down stinking drunk.. on 1/2 of a shot... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE but the feeling did not last as long..... at least not as intensly as when it first hit me.............. so whatever you do be careful.....

A wine cooler would probably not be your best option. Most likely LOADED with sugar, not only from the wine but whatever else they put in it. You are only 1 month out, so you don't want to go into a sugar coma...not to mention...cramps, vomiting, nausea....not to mention complete drunkeness. My surgeon recommended that we wait til we were 6 months post-op before drinking...however....my 1 year wedding anniversary I was 2 mos. post-op and I did have 1 glass of wine, which after 2 or 3 sips I was quite tipsy. Be careful...you might want to try a low-carb beer, or a California wine (no sugars added to California Wines), before you go with a wine cooler. Good Luck! JUDY

I am almost 4 months post op and have an occasional low carb beer with my friends on social outings. I have a friend that is almost two years out that found the Barcardi Low Carb drink. It comes in Black Cherry or Green Apple, maybe that would be an option for you. I would think that wine coolers would be very high in sugar because most have added fruit juice. I am a social butterfly and when out with friends I usually drink about 1/2 a beer an hour, throw it out (warm), wait another 1/2 hour and get another one, after drink the equivalent of about a full beer in 2+ hours I then have water for a while. A few have mentioned you will feel it quicker, this is true, because of our reconfigeration, the alcohol hits our liver faster, therefore a feeling of intoxicatedness faster but it also goes away faster. Hope this helps!!!

I'm almost 2 years out and dumped on a wine cooler. It was more the sugar than the alcohol. Hey, that fruity flavor has to come from something, right? I can drink a lite beer with no problem.
