Does Lunesta leave a bad taste in your mouth?

Okay, I'm huge insomniac and since . Doc tried me on Ambien but I was always up by 1:00 am. Now I'm on Lunesta, which gives me 6 hours of good sleep, BUT I hate the awful metallic taste. Does anyone have this problem and a suggestion on what to alleviate or even eliminate it all together? Thanks :D Brenda

Oh my yes!!! The taste is awful! I found myself eating things just to get rid of the taste. I talked to the drug rep and she said to take it on an empty stomach and with a full glass of water. That did not help me at all. My Dr. switched me to Ambien CR and I have no problems OR bad taste. I woke up within an hour on regular Ambien.

Glad to know there is a possible alternative. I'll give my PCP a call. I wind up doing the same thing:EATING to get the taste out of my mouth! Even Flinstone vitamins or Viactive chews didn't help! I'll check into the Ambien CR. How long have you been on it? I've been on Lunesta for 6 months now and was on Doxipen for a few years before WLS. Sure do envy people who can SLEEP! Thanks for your input! :D Brenda

I have been on the Ambien CR since Dec. 22, 2005. I had read other posts that said Ambien CR wouldn't work for us since it is time-released, but I find that it works great for me. My Dr. said that it breaks down in the stomach and then is released in the bloodstream. I wish you all the best of luck!

The metallic taste went away after a week or two when I was on it. Kim

Lunesta= YUCKY!! I tried that for about a week and I couldn't stand the taste from it. They tried me on Sonata and I found out you don't give that to a person with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) it made me crazy and I went numb from head to toe. I am now on Trazodone...I get my zzzzzzzz's Good Luck

Thanks for your imput. I'll investigate both of these sleep aids. How long have you been on Trazodone? Is it something you can be on for ever? I'll probably be a "lifer". Thanks and isn't sleep wonderful?? Good luck to you! :D Brenda

I used to have a similar problem with sleep. I got sick of prescriptions and went the healthy route. Calcium with equal parts magnesium is great, they also sell magnesium alone which has a wonderful calming effect. But I would only recommend a natural supplement not what you by at the drug store, Nature's Way is good, as well as Solgar. I always take the stuff at night, it really helps. Good luck, I know how bad insomnia can be. Worse comes to worse try Tylenol PM, good backup. LOL

Thanks for your recommendations! I may give the Solgar a try. Tylenol PM didn't help me years ago when I first became an insomniac, doubt it would help much now. Thanks for your help! :D Brenda
