heimlich maneuver ?
I'm not a medical professional (far from it) but my initial thought is that the heimlich forces air from the diaphragm up into the esophagus (again, my anatomy may be all wrong) but I couldn't see why we shouldn't have it done to us. And anyway - I'd rather risk the heimlich than choking to death! lol I mean, CPR can break ribs, but I think people would choose a few broken ribs over being dead. No?
The air comes from your lungs
that maneuver forces the air from your lungs (via the diaphram) at high pressure through your trachea (windpipe) to dislodge some food or other thing that is stuck in your windpipe preventing you from breathing. The heimlich maneuver isn't for unsticking food from your esophagus (food pipe if you will).
