Hi All,

I have my surgery on April 5th.  Can't wait.  However, Dr. Buddy at Scottsdale Bariatric mentioned I should go to a few support groups prior to check it out.

Anyone know of WLS support groups on the Scottsdale Healthcare - near 101and Shea - area?
Or even if there is something in North Phoenix -that would be even better.

Thanks so much,
Shae

Ahhhh, tell Buddy hello from Joyce!  He's the BEST!

Congrats on your surgery date!!!  ......  There are support groups open to everyone all over the valley but I wonder if Dr. Messer meant for you to attend Scottsdale groups?

Anyway, there is a group that meets this coming Tuesday at Phoenix St Luke's (55 N. 18th ST, Phoenix) at 6:30.  It's open to everyone.

There's a group that meets in the Paradise Valley hospital area but I think they are closed off now to their patient's only?

Banner Gateway is on the East side (think Gilbert area ....Higley and the 60) and they are also on the 1st Tuesday, the 2nd Weds and the 3rd Weds.  .. Open to everyone.  I love the group on the 3rd Weds at 4:30 (psych facilitated).

Good luck and congrats!

Is the support group at Banner Gateway always at 4:30 on the 3rd Wed of the month or do they have other days and times?  Can everyone attend even if my surgery was done elsewhere?
Thanks, Don

I've had the same experience with billing since Simon moved to the office at St. Luke's. I've had other issues as well. I've tried to contact Dr. Simon because I trusted him and he was so much a part of my "journey", but I've had no luck. I wonder if he is setting up his practice elsewhere? Seems like everything went wrong after the move to Tempe. For me, mess-ups resulted in the removal of my band by Dr. Schlesinger. There has been absolutely no follow-up. I am taking further action.

Topic: RE: Where is Dr. Steven Simon?
Hi - I liked Dr. Simon as well and his wife Vicki and Amber.  I loved the old place on Osborn.  They were so nice and helpful and available.  I even had a dream about them.  I got a call to confirm my appt on Thursday and a cancellation call for my Friday afternoon appointment in November - so I think it was very sudden.

I was extrememly disappointed by Dr. Schlesinger.  He was very negative - even though I have lost 60 pounds and my BMI is awesome!  I couldn't believe it.  He made my skin crawl.  When I asked about Dr. Simon he barked at me that the doctor would not be back.  He was rude to his staff as well.   We have to remember that we are consumers and we can take our money elsewhere.

On another note, I was self pay using Dr. Simon's Care Credit relationship and they have done away with that without informing the transfer patients.  They billed my insurance company $649.00 when the office visits were supposed to be $175 for self-pay.  Huge rip off for insurance!!!  It seems like they are a mess over there right now.  I will be transferring to a new doctor as soon as billing is correct.
