Topic: RE: Stop putting down people on the boards
You know I have been away from the boards for a long time and I don't know much about the sleeve so correct me if I am wrong.

Is it your stomach is partially structured off and the intestines are not bypassed correct?  Back when I had my surgery I was most familiar with RNY and the Bands.  Of course I even had my RNY so long ago I was open, which I love and do not regret by any means.  My surgoen was old school he actually came from Mayo Rochester and did the RNY out there too and he retired about 5 months after my surgery and some new surgeons came in such as Dr Swain and now I can't remember the other one.  I  worked for Mayo clinic for six years so I knew all the surgeons or at least used to.. :)

I never got to my goal I was 336 the day of surgery, got down to185 two years later, but of course I was young, started feeling confident dating, going out, eating more, drinking more and fell into some really bad habits.  So here I am now 265 and it scares me to think I am so close to my original surgery weight.  So I want to go back to the basics of surgery however I did find out a year ago I have a rupture in my staple line.  Now I am not saying I can't lose weight at all I am sure with or without the rupture I can lose weight but I am finding it hard to get back on track.  I have written a few times on the Back on Track forum and probably should go over there more often.  .

what kind of diet do you follow today?  Are you at goal?

I am getting turned off with the board being a means to slander one another.  If you don't like someone keep it to yourself, please.  Everyone has a right to their opinion about surgeons, people, staff, surgery, etc.

The boards is not a place to constantly throw people under the bus.  It makes the board an uncomfortable place to come and that's not why the board was designed.

My name is Jennifer and I had surgery almost ten years ago with a surgeon at Mayo clinic *****tired five months after my surgery.  I was forever grateful but wow have things changed in ten years.  When I had my surgery at Mayo Clinic we did not have a support group, myself along with four other people went to surgeons, board members, etc to appeal the case of having a support group at Mayo Clinic and in October 2000 the support group was born.

I come to the boards recently because I am needing help, for so long and so many years I offered support to others I need it in return.  I have gained back 80 lbs and I want to stop the insanity of my weight gain.  I am not sure if revision is the answer, I am trying to remember all those promises I made to myself and to God on the day of surgery and realizing I am not doing what I promised.  So first I am taking time for myself to soul search and to reach out to the basics of my weight loss surgery and to realize those were things I needed to do forever, not just until I lost the weight.

I do not mean to offend anyone I just want to come here and be friends and gain support.  I often feel like I am failure and wonder if I am alone.  I used to work for plastic surgeons at Mayo Clinic and so I have seen tons of my friends not only have the weight loss surgery but have their plastic surgery done and I think, why is that not me?  Why have I gained the weight back?

What are some of your experiences since surgery?

There is a very long history and a lot of good reasons for the posts being written.

I would suggest that you use your block icon and block anything you don't want to see.  Nothing is going to change until these boards are used for their intended use instead of what some are using them for today.

Block.. it's easy.  Honestly, I don't mean that as snitty as it sounds, it's just a suggestion.  Then you won't need to start more threads complaining about other threads, you won't even see them.

Thank you for your suggestion and you mention nothing is going ot change until these boards are used for their intended use.    Well lets talk about that, I posted this thread in order to seek support and make friends.

I know ten years ago that is why this board was created for people to gain information and get support.  I would not want to block anyone in particular only becuase that person may actually have some support to offer or good information.  So tell me about yourself and how has your experience been?

Yes, YOU are using the boards as they were intended, not everyone does.

I originally had a band, worst mistake of my life and a huge waste of money.  Many do not do well with banding... I don't believe most keep it long term.  Went back to my surgeon and he revised me to a sleeve and it's been great ever since then!  I actually had my revision at goal, I had no choice as I couldn't eat solid foods and so I revised so I could eat a better diet than protein shakes. ;o)

And you?

Here is a recent post from an ACTUAL patient of Schlesinger's.   She had the ERNY not the DS, and she got an infection post-op.   Here is how he treats his patients when they have complications - this is not the only patient he has treated this way.   There are two more who have posted about  it.   Check out the profile of TJWOOD.  So, if you DO end up getting an infection or complication - BEWARE!:

Unfortunately, this entire thread has been deleted by the OH moderators.   That's what happens when you put the truth about what REALLY happened on the boards.   That's why all you ever read are good things about everyone, including the doctors!   You cannot get  "balanced"  information, with all the pros and the cons!  All the more reason that you should read previous posts on the boards and do your own research.   Go to other boards.   Don't just read what is written now - read what was written for two or three years back!  Only then can you get a good idea about a surgery or a doctor!

Hi Jennifer, It has been 4 weeks tomorrow that I moved here from Florida. I had met several fellow bariatric people at the OH conference here in 2005.I am trying though to meet many others as well. Buit I am a little afraid with all the crap going on with people acting like they are in High School rather then adults. I like Joyce alot and nobody will influence me with their crap. I was very active in the bariatric  community in Florida and I hoped to be here too but for now it scares me. Hope to meet you sometime at a support group(which we all need).  I didnt have snow but we did have alot of rain and hurricanes where I moved from.

Perhaps next year I will be able to make my rounds and meet some more people from the boards.

Yesterday was a busy busy day for me.  I had a wedding in the aftenroon to attend and had to leave early to make it to my friends annual Xmas party but the entire day was just so much fun.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Wendy it looks like you recently had surgery, congratulations.  How are you feeling?  I have had several friends who had the bands and some chose not to go back in for fills and so they lost waht they wanted and stopped but sadly one of my friends is still over 300 lbs and I try to tell him he has a wonderful tool and should really take advantage of it for his health.  He has been on blood pressure medication for years and he is only 40 years old right now.

How are you Stacy?  tell me about your surgoen and where you had surgery?  I am open to doctors and suggestions and than I do my own research of course.  I have been in the medical field for over 15 years and I even went as far last time to write to my own insurance and appearl for my surgery for over a year.  I imagine if I do choose to have revision surgery I will be doing the same thing this time around.
