Topic: How was everyone's Thanksgiving? :)
So? How was it? How did everything go? Did you face any challenges?

I thought it might be interesting to take a poll, since Thanksgiving is the ultimate glutton holiday, that we can no longer celebrate to the fullest extent anymore LOL.

Personally, my day was really nice.... love spending time with the family! Dinner rolled around and I filled up a HUGE plate full of food..... ate till I was full (which didn't take long!).... and saved the left for leftovers. Seemed to work pretty well.... I'm a slow eater.... so by the time I was done with my tiny amount, everyone else was about done gorging themselves..... so we all got to sit there and moan and groan about how full we were LOL.

I had a little bit of a hard time getting the turkey down comfortably.... I like the light turkey and it's a bit dryer than dark meat. And I didn't feel too guilty about eating pumpkin pie.... my boyfriend made it sugar-free.... so it's basically like eating squash, right? :) :P

How did you guys do? Is there anything you would do different in the future?

Sorry, this was my first major holiday since surgery.... so I'm curious to hear :)

Topic: The Holidays Are Rough!! Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions
http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/crossingtotransferaddictions/

Hi All,

The Holidays are here: more food, more alcohol, more shopping, more EVERYTHING!!!!

There is a new OH Online Support Group. The above link will get you there.
It's called
Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions

This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. there are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.

For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion. Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.

***Please feel free (and safe) to join and discuss any and/all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction. ***

WE WILL SUPPORT EACH OTHER WITHOUT JUDGEMENT!

Have you looked into Care Credit? They do medical loans with awesome rates!

Last time I checked, they do 0% interest loans as long as you pay them off in the first 18 months. I'm sure they'd be able to set up reasonable payments for the $1200! :)

Thank You for the kind thoughts. I have my surgery set for the end of December. That is if I can come up with the 1200.00 than I will have surgery.
All Good things come forth.

I wish I would have seen this sooner.... let me know what I can do to help!

I do admin/secretarial stuff ALL day long... spreadsheets and organizing are my specialty! :)
Hey there cute friend!

I will definitely take you up on your offer.  We had a GREAT dinner meeting last night with ideas, plans and excitement levels flowing freely!  We divided up a few things but there are still a zillion areas that need some TLC from good volunteers.

Can you shoot me an email so I can add you to the volunteer group email that we circulate?  Then you'll stay up to speed and can contribute when you have some ideas.

Thanks so much!  See you next Tuesday at group?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Topic: RE: Gas Pain & Possible Heartburn..HELP!!
After reading your symptoms, gallbladder is my very first thought.

I've been experiencing the EXACT same issues.... and thought it was just heartburn. I tried EVERYTHING..... Tums, Rolaids, Zantac, Pepcid Complete, Pepto Bismol, etc etc..... NOTHING worked!!! So I started doing a little research and discovered that my symptoms pointed to gallbladder issues..... and gallbladder issues are very common in the weight loss surgery community.... as you lose all that weight, your liver/gallbladder have to work overtime to process all the fat out.

I'd definitely reccommend sticking to a strict low-fat diet, and talking to your doctor if possible.

I personally no longer have health insurance (sigh).... so I opted for the "homeopathic" hippie route.... increased my fiber, cut out fats, and am basically now a strict vegetarian. So far, so good..... I've lost even more weight.... and the heartburn, gas cramps and heavy chest feeling are all gone.
