Rusty, Thank you for your reply.I do not know the reason for the bird sitting with their beak in a open position, but you might want to ask your vet or pet store about that. All female & male birds puff up,they are still healthy, they might be sleeping or cleaning themselves. What kind of birds do you have? Sorry to hear about your one bird that got killed. Our one zebra finch was attacking the other zebra finch and pucking her feathers out,we put her with another finchm, and the finch that was hurt is by herself now,and is happy as can be! You can also email me direct at: [email protected] Keep in touch. Hugs! Mary

I have 3 zebra finches. What does it mean when they sit with their beak in a frozen open position? And why does one female continually puff up to double her size? (She is healthy.) The saddest thing that happened was that I bought 2 white zebras & the male nearly killed the prior gray four times in one month; finally the white male (who was beautiful & tiny) had to go back to the pet store where he was furiously flogging others as I left. Thanks for any information you may care to pass along! Hugs! Rusty

Topic: "Colorado Mockingbird"? Stubborn and won't sing?
I need some help with this question I found. It says: Try all you want, you'll never get a "Colorado Mockingbird" to sing. Give me the name of this stubborn "bird". Does anyone know what bird this is? I have tried forever looking on the internet to find the answer but I cannot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kelly

Hi all, I am so happy to see a bird board. What fun to add the flock. My name is Paula and my flock consists of Zeke a 61/2 year old moustached parakeet, PJ a 6 year old umbrella ****atoo, Tooter and Olivia 5 year old tiels, Moses a 5 year old parottlet, and Imaan a 3 year old Congo African Grey. You all are the only ones that might share my excitement. My present to myself for my weight loss is Mady a 4 month old blue and gold macaw. She is being weaned and I can pick her up in October. Hi Bunny Welcome aboard. I wish I could tell you this is a busy forum but as I am sure you saw, mine was the last post over a month ago. I think they moved the members and left me in the dark with my babies. Ekkies are neat but I guess I am just a 'caw gal. LOL Again, welcome. Marsha

To have a Mollucan ****atoo would be to have my dream bird. They are so sweet and loveable...and BIG. I just do not have the room for a cage that would be needed for a bird of that size---and in all fairness to the bird, I don't have the time that would need to be dedicated to it. Maybe someday I will be in the position to take one in.

My avian vet advised me that birds that are not allowed to remain outside should not be treated with Mite products. He says unless they are exposed to other birds, they will not develop mite problems. One thing you can do is to get a spray bottle that sprays a gentle mist and mist the bird with just plain room temperature water. That will help with the powder on the bird and the dryness of his skin.

Have you tried the bitter apple spray that you put on their feathers? I have heard this is a good way to help break the picking feathers. I have also heard that African Greys are extremely smart and social and that they get bored easily and that boredom leads to picking feathers. Maybe leaving a radio or tv on for them when you are away would help?
