Topic: New here too!
When the description says we try to cover it all...it's true. Never would have guessed I would find more bird brains here too. I am so happy. Learning so much and finding people who I actually have more than one thing in common with. AMAZING I share my home with my SO and my 3 macaws..Junior(Scarlet), Peaches (B&G) and Luna (B&G) Used to have a lot more but things change in a hurry sometimes when things get insane. I will try to put some of my bird experience to work here if needed. Marsha

I know of a tiel that is 30 years old - still going strong the last I heard. My two babies are 6 and soon-to-be 5.

Thanks for the feedback Sue. We finally brought Skittles home about a week ago. He was submissive to the other parrots at the petstore but he ran after my tiel with his beak open the first time they were both out. So they have a see but not touch relationship for a while. I'm finding out that Skittle is just about as demanding as our dogs about attention. He expects to be out and on our shoulder when we're home. It's interesting to see the things that freak him out. The TV was one of the biggest new scary things. But he loves the computer screen. I've read that Senegals can be very particular about their people. So far Skittles still likes everyone. We'll have to be diligent about keeping him socialized.

I got a Senegal because I wanted a second bird, I have a DYH Amazon. The two birds hardly notice each other. Still I would not let my Senegal come in physical contact with my Amazon, my Amazon would probably hurt him thinking she was playing. Although I got this bird for me he loves my husband and wants nothing to do with me. In fact every time I have ever tried to touch him he has drawn blood. When he's on my husband's shoulder he inches his way over to get close enough to bite me. But with my husband he is so adorable, he cuddles under his chin and flips over to have his tummy scratched. He purrs, really a bird that purrs ! He waves and he coughs and sneezes because his previous owner had cystic fibrosis and coughed and sneezed a lot. So what I would say to you is try to socialize him as much as you can so he doesn't end up hating everyone but you. They can get neurotic but with lots of love and attention they can be really sweet. I would not let the Senegal come into contact with the ****atiels, but in a cage near them with supervision would work.

I've adopted a senegal parrot, he's still begin weaned. Does anyone have any tips? I know he likes apples and loves to be out of the cage. Hopefully, he'll come home on Mother's Day I currently have 2 ****atiels (1 year and 18 years old). I've been told that I will have to be careful because the senegal could accidently hurt the ****atiel just because he has a bigger beak but I'm hoping my younger tiel will find a friend in the senegal.

Hey Catleth, I have an African Grey that is a picker. It happened by him overgrooming himself and then he got into a habit and is still at it. He's been on prozac, steriods, everything we could think of. No luck. I believe he thinks he looks cool. He has no butt feathers - plucks them out whenever they start to grow back in. He has no feathers from his keelbone to his cochlea. He was starting on his wings but has backed off and allowed them to grow back. Vet said no parasites, nothing healthwise wrong with him. They're so intelligent that when they get into these bad habits, its very hard to break. Micah has the best of everything, lacks for nothing. So we live with this plucked chicken who taunts us and laughs at us daily. Doesn't make him any less loveable. Just makes him comical to look at.

chickens. I like spending time with them. They play case games where one gets a piece of hay and runs and the other follow it. I sit in a chair and they jump up on my leg and sit there. I have one that follows me around and if I don't pick her up she yells at me. I have made it out of their pen before and she sit there and squawks at me till I come back. Trust me I have to go back in or I'll hear it all day. They relax me. It fun watching them. I wish I had a house bird but I can't.

Please be carefull with the diffrent sprays for birds. even though they say they are safe, they can be irritating to their skin. It may be thet he is just molthing, but, he may be chewing his feathers out of bordem. Try getting him some wood toys to chew on. ****ateils are in the ****atoo family and need wood to destroy. You can also check out the website, prizeparrots.com. My mother-in-law has bought several birds from her. She has been working with birds for over 30 years and may be able to help you. I also work in a nursing home and think that it is wonderful that you take him to work with you. Maybe he is missing all of the attention. Take him to your vet and have him cleared to go back with you Good luck, hope I helped a little, Leslie

I have a 4 year old ****atiel named Paulie and he started chewing his feathers (at least I think he's chewing, I don't really see him do it that much) He looks awful. I used to bring him to work, I work in a nursing home, but now he looks so shabby I can't. There are infection control issues to think about. It's a shame as he loves to talk to and play with the residents and they love him. I have tried moulting food, mite spray, soothing skin spray, extra attention and even a new toy he can preen which he won't go near. He seems happy and eats fine and plays with the cats and us as usual. He just looks shabby. Any advice would be appreciated. So thanks in advance.
