There is no timeline per se BUT I get tested for everything once a year...and yes ladies you do have to ASK your GYN as they will not test you automatically just because you're having a PAP smear done. I'm a firm believer in knowing YOUR status...HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, Hep B&C, and HSV...and you have to be accountable for YOUR actions whatever they may be.

I also request to see it on paper (as well...I provide my results) for ole boy before we go bare because I ain't believeing the "oh yeah I just got a clean bill of health" thing Yes, it has to be mutual and yes it has to be discussed. Spur of the moment decisions can have a high price tag and a lifelong sentence!

Now having said that, there are still no guantees PERIOD. People lie, cheat and so on. I have known women who were a virgin when they got married and have ONLY been with their husband in their lifetime...umm and still they came up with HIV and some mo shiat!!! Oh and women ain't the only ones...I have also known men to be completely faithful to their women and then THEY come up with shiat too...it goes BOTH ways for sure. Sad but true...

I'm by far perfect but I try to make wise decisions. That's just my 0.02

Hey YaYa...That is the scariest part...You both can sit in the clinic, get swabbed, and everything else and all it takes is one to mess up...I trust my man 10000% but things can happen...My BFF is 27 and was with her man for almost 12 years and 2 weeks ago she found out he had a 16 month old baby by another women...So obviously he had unprotected sex with someone else and could have gave you ANYTHING under the sun. I play it safe but am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

Wow...that's a hard hit to take. A child in the picture changes so many things.

I also believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason...even tho we may not understand why at the time we are going through it I'm thankful for the good and the bad that has happened in my life because they have all been building blocks and made me the person I am today. Great minds think alike BEAUTIFUL

I saw this earlier and thought I'd wait to respond.  I am so glad it was brought up because so many do not get tested regularly and think if they "look" healthy, then they must be.

Unfortunately, HIV and other STDs are running rampant within the African American community and it is so sad when I see beautiful young & old people giving themselves to any Tom, Dick, Harry, Sally, or Sue they meet or that tells them they are pretty or fine or sexy.  But that is not it alone, it's important to get tested because of past relationships also.  Like Yaya said, people lie and withhold information for whatever reason and it can be detrimental later.  And frankly, some people do not care about spreading disease.

There are many places that will perform anonymous or free testing.  Sometimes both.  Take care of yourself.

For the 1st year almost my spouse and I used protection and one day he just got tired of it...It was annoying...We just stopped...And yes we both are disease free...lol...but we stopped prior to finding eachothers status... Do I regret it...no I do not...We were living together, engaged, planning on having a family...It was the right thing to do for us...In the past I stopped sooner but this time we did not...It would be annoying in the middle of a session him getting up rambling...I am laying there cold and now it is straight to the point.
