Are you wrong if you don't try to hit your goal weight?

Is it 'okay' to stay 20-30lbs above your goal weight?  If you are still 'overweight' according to the BMI chart - does that make you a WLS 'failure' or does it mean you are weak for not trying 'hard enough'?

What do you 'owe' the process?  If you have had WLS - what was your intended goal, and did you reach it?  If you didn't reach it - did you change your goal so that you didn't feel as if you didn't 'make the cut'?

If you did reach your goal then gained back up to 20-30 over goal weight and decided you were cool where you are - does that mean you 'copped out'?

What do you REALLY mean by goal weight - and if you stay 'overweight' by any means - does it make you unworthy of the process????????

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Hey Trina,
Great question!
I say no.  If you have done and continue to do all that you can to reach your goal and you ultimately do not, perhaps our goal weight is not what our bodies see as our goal weight.  Sometimes we want what is not healthy for our body types.  I know for me, I have been trying hard to get to my personal weight goal.  But it just ain't happening.  Now maybe it is me and my lack of commitment, then again maybe it is my body fighting hard to stay where it is comfortable at.  Now, do I consider myself a failure?  No!  I have followed most of the rules, most of the time and I am better off  now then where I started and I am free of the illnesses that I use to have prior to losing what I have.  That in and of itself is a success.  Do I want to lose more?  HELL YEAH!  Am I gonna keep trying/  HELL YEAH!  Will I be upset or angry if I can't.  NO.  By the way, those mofos who made that damn chart with the supposed "goal Weights" are crazy.  If I listen to them, hell I would be anorexic...... Damn insurance people! LOL  I don't ever what to weigh what the chart says for my height.  Too small for me!

But if you ain't SEEN it on you - how do you KNOW it's too small????

I thought 190 would be small for me - but I could SO go to 160...... I just can't make it there!

I hear what you are saying.  But I have seen it on me.  Many many moons ago~   ...... I was much younger then, and it was a great size to be. Then..... But now that I am older, I would not look right being that small.  Talk about looking crack headish.  That would be me at the weight on the charts.  It is smaller than the 160 you are aimin for.  I would love to be 160 but I don't see it happening for me.  I will be thankful to get back to 180 at this point.  This journey is sooooo hard!~

MM I hope that it doesn't make you a failure in any of those cases because I would be one because my surgeons goal for me is to be 140 I DON'T think so. I think that's a bit thin for me. My gramother is already talking crap and I'm 30 pound from that.  I want to be around 150ish, but when I started this journey I only wanted to be a size 14 which still would have classified me as obese not just overweight because I'm short. I think it's a personal preference and the US standard are way off to me they want you to be a rail to be "NORMAL" With a little Smart Lipo I can rid and tightening some of this skin and pounds..LOL

You asked :Are you wrong if you don't try to hit your goal weight? My answer may **** some off and that is ok.

But I say yes. You are dead wrong. Wrong as two left feet. The two important words in that question is "your" and "try"

If it "your" goal you should keep "trying" to reach it no matter what, if you find it not attainable, then make your goal one that is, goals are not written in stone. Shame on anyone who make their goal 150 and then sit back at 200 and not even try reach it, sound like someone who just want to complain that they did not make it.

I am not talking about what the bmi chart say or what your doctor say but your true goal for yourself and there is nothing written that you can't have more than one goal but I believe your final goal should be one that will make you happy .You are only unworthy of the process if you give up mid way and stop trying.

I am taking my mean behind back to bed now, smile

Oh the sweet, dulcit tones of the one and only L-Boogie!!!!!  I have SOOOOOO missed you!!!!   come here......

no - wait...........  !!!!!  LOL

Ok - so lemme ask you this - my goal was to lose 200lbs - which takes me to 186.  That's where I basically am, give or take 4 lbs depending the day.  My BMI chart says I should be below 165 - so I technically have another 20lbs to go.  Now - I REFUSE to ever be over 200 again - but with everything I have done in the last 4 mos or more - I can't get below 185.  So - I am about to say F-ck it and just let it be - but don't want to be a failure for not getting to 165...... feel me?

No, i dont feel you. If you want to get to 165, then keep trying, if you die without getting there then and only then can it be said that you did not get there.  You want to get to 165 yesterday and that not goind to happen but, keep trying and you might need to bring that goal up to 180, then get there, get comfortable and then make another goal. Are you trying to get to 165 because that is the weight that you want to be or because a chart says that is what you should weigh?? You need to ask yourself, is 165 truly where I want to be or am I allowing the chart to tell me where I need to be? You only a failure if you classify yourself as a failure, no one else have the power to do so. There is new BMI chart that go by age, which one are you using?

165 is on the BMI chart if you just google a BMI chart - I have never seen one by age - where is that?

165 only came into my 'head' after looking at the damn chart - 185-190 was my original, true blue goal - that and a size 12.  I wear 10s now - so technically - I am where I set myself to be when I had WLS - then when I got here - I figured I would try to go smaller - but it's not working out.

When I am feeling up to it, I will look up the one by age and send to you, but it might be the same for you, i think by age only benefits old fools like me.

Keep working on it, a goal is just that...something that you strive for, seem like you trying to give yourself a goal of 165 with a time limit and that very well could be where you are making the mistake. You will get there but maybe not when you want to.
