COMPLICATIONS

Im not tripping YET, but one of my friends called me yesterday and i was saying to her gurl i got less than 48 hours to go, so she says to me for what? and i said for my surgery, so she said oh....ok gurl i forgot.  I said oh yeah right you aint forgot (joking with her) she said gurl i did, i still cant believe youu are finally doing this, well i dont believe it until you on the table! (she saying this because i have been going in and out about having this done) so, i started laughing and i said girl this is happening so dont play! so i started asking her about this gurl  we know who has had the surgery done. and she says to me gurl sheaint doing ood at all that surgery has caused her so many complications she has been in and out of the hospital sooo many times, girl she is dying from that.  I said oh...wow!  she said im not trying to discourage you or anything but gurl she has already exausted her vacation days from work already from being in and out of the hospital and its only march.  I said wow, from the surgery? she said well everyone is different so.....,  and i said yeah you right, thats sad whats her number im gonna call her and see how she is doing, so she gave me the number. I called her but did not get any answer.  I didnt trip or anything at the moment, but later on yesterday i found myself thinking about her saying gurl she have so many complications from that surgery, she dying.  So then i started to thinking about how the conversation went, and i got my butt up and finished packing my things for the hospital!

My question is what do you all think of this conversation? this  this is so unlike her!

i dont know your friend so i cant say that she's hating! However you will find that people you thought would have your back, will be the ones to fall off the quickest.

When i had my surgery I didnt tell but 1 friend (my best friend) and my parents and siblings. THAT"S IT and to this day lots of people still dont know... cuz i dont need nobody saying girlll such and such had that surgery and you know she sick or she died. 

people will say things to discourage you, you have to surround yourself with people who will put positive thoughts in your head. She didnt even care enough to remember your surgery date!!!!

Mstanyat...thank you!, you are right! the ones who i thought or think will have my back could care less! i had a close friend one who i had always called my best friend who has had the sugery done, doesnt seem to happy and excited at all for me.  when she had hers gurl you would have thought it was me having it done.  when i got my date i was with another friend of mine who had the band.  We were both in the car when i called my other friend to tell her the GOOD NEWS and she was like oh you did (real dry)! so my other friend i was with said gurl i wouldnt have told her a** sh** because she didnt sound like she was too happy for you.  so i know i am gonna have it coming from all angles but i have warned people, including my family.  DO NOT talk ****o me or say stupid negative stuff to me after i change because i am going to start bussing peoples bubbles and letting they a** have it.  so dont get mad at me if i tell you off when you say some off the wall stuff to me!  i am however open to positive and encouraging words and or comments! i know some things people are blind too but if you cant be assertive in what you have to say to me then keep it to yourself.

Ok - BE FOR REAL!  LOL - you will hear a whole lot more **** if you call a couple MORE folks in your life - my advice - spend your last day in reflection and focused soley on YOU - if you call and try to get feedback and whatnot from folk today - you will get a lot more crap.

Do complications happen?  YES  Have people died from them?  YES 

However - unless you know the FULL MONTY - and it sounds like your 'friend' doesn't - you cannot even begin to think that it's attributed to the surgery.  I heard of a woman that had horrible complications - know what that ***** had done?  Ate a freaking WHOPPER on the way HOME FROM SURGERY!!!!  No bull**** - the ***** stopped at BK on the way home - popped all kinds of stitches and **** - had leaks - the whole shabang.  And the mofo that told me about it was trying to warn me....... mofo PLEASE - I know what I am getting into - and stopping at BK was NOT even a thought in my big ass head!!!!!

gurl you remind me of me, wemust be related i do have family in houston too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol its funny you mentioned the burger king broad because this particular person who had the surgery done supposedly had thyroid issues (according to my friend who told me) and plus some months (maybe 6 or more) after she had her surgery done i had seenn her at my friends get together and you could see you was a little smaller in her neck area but otherwise she did not look like she had even had the surgery.  she was still real heavy and her plate was overloaded with food! and she was eating her butt off! so i didnt want to be in her business but i had to get up and ask her if she had had it done, and she said yeah but everybody telling her she has came down some but she cant see it and she is going to be making her an appointment with her surgeon because she think she should be smaller than she is.....blah blah blah.  so my take on the whole thing is like you MM, people think a lot of these peoples issues who either faiiled the surgery or not doing well is attributed to the surgery itself.  I know there will be some complications and i also know there has been deaths with this surgery. 

I wrestled with this complications things a few years ago when i was wanting the surgery done and i actually changed my mind several times because if things people had to say.  but then i got myself back together and continued to do my research and thinking for my dam self! one of my thoughts was most of the time people have issues and certain illnesses BEFORE they have this done.

you are exactly right!  People DO have issues and things before surgery that they don't address.  Folk tried to tell ME that WLS was the easy way out and blah blah blah - but folk who KNEW me - knew that when I dedicate myself to something - WATCH THE FUCK OUT!!!!!  I get fixated on things and when I do - nothing stops me from staying on track.  That's why the protein shakes, vitamins, water and exercise are like mantras to me - I follow that **** HARD - I have several friends who also had WLS and they don't rock it as hard as I do - but KNOW that when they need a ass kicking to get on track - I am SOOO there!!!!  LOL

Bottom line - this journey is what YOU make it - if you wanna be a failure sitting in the corner at a party with a full plate of food - then that's what you will be.  If you wanna be the one that folk say 'WOW - she did all that - *I* can do that too' then it will be!!!!  'As a man thinketh, so he shall he be' - some famous mofo said that a long time ago......

Your friend might not be hating (she might just not have any common sense) but her timing sucked bringing that half baked mess to you so close to your having surgery and sound like she didnt even know the entire story.

Lucious, you're right because it did sound like she tried to catch herself in between.  but i told her naw thats ok, i am kool with my decision go on and say it.

I'm sure your Surgeon explained the risks associated with this surgery and any surgery. Additionally your friend probably doesn't know if perhaps her issues are related to existing health issues that the surgery was to help. Bottom line, if you know that this surgery is for you no matter what stories folks may share...put it in God's hands and go to the hospital in peace.  Chile I prayed on the day of my surgery...scared out my wits. When the time came I dropped my son at daycare and as I looked back at my little looney I felt like laughing because for whatever reason from that moment on I was absolutely calm because I knew like I knew nuthin else that I'd be seeing my little looney in a couple of days I had no more fear.
