hmmmm......

Just wondering.....alot......I love my Black people.....I admire Black women's strength, sense of self, sense of family......family.....you know how the Black woman had to nurse the white woman's child in slave days....what a selfless act....it was about nourishing the child for her, you know?

However, I wonder, if WE, Black women, unlike our fairer skin sisters hang on to the idea....the thought of marriage and family because our ancestors' family were torn apart, ripped, by the white man in slave days. White women have no problem divorcing and getting remarried 60 days later!

One thought......

Why don't Black people engage in learning about Europeans?  Whites go to Africa.....there were white abolitionist.....whites to march with Dr. King....etc, etc....hell, if I remember correctly, a white man, Norman somebody....painted the picture of Ruby Bridges being escorted to school ~sigh~

Just random thoughts.....

No popcorn discussion....just REAL random thoughts....how many blacks do you know that go to Europe to see how white people live(d)? But whites are always visiting Africa....always trying to feed the children of Africa.....always got pictures of them starving with flies and schitt! I mean like, "who is responsible for that schitt?"

While traveling, I saw dead birds on the E-way! BIG BIRDS....brownish....I'm like WTH happened to them?!

...me personally???  has one who has lived in europe for a few years...i don't think black folk need to go to europe to learn about how white people live.  we as black folk are more "europeanized" (word?) than we realize.

(where did you see these birds???)

On I-71 North in Kentucky...in fact, I wasn't on 71....had to be 265 East...the Gene Snyder (to avoid going through Louisville).  I felt so bad for them....I'm like, I know  a car/truck did not hit those birds!

I agree that we are "europeanized."  Especially me LOL---weave, lashes, (no fake nails)....Lauryn Hill sang it best on MisEducation CD "Doo Wop" ~it's silly when girls sell their soul because it's in...look at what you be in....hair weaves like Europeans....fake nails like Koreans"  Dayum I love that CD....I need to go buy it LOL

Hey lady!!!!

Ok - here's my two cents - actually my MAMA'S two cents - we were just talking Sunday and she commented that Africans (true Africans - those STILL in Africa) aren't respectful or appreciative of the Black American experience.  She read or listened to something that commented on the perception for SOME Africans that Black Americans are NOT African and they feel no 'bond' with us and therefore don't accept us.  The specific example was some Black American that had problems starting a business in Africa because the Africans there didn't want to deal with a 'foreigner' - then she went off on a tangent about how Africans don't want Blacks BACK because while we look to research lineage and history - they don't..... man I was so glad to get off the phone about that......

anyhoo - I personally don't feel the need to 'connect' - my history is HERE - now I would like to visit just like i would like to visit France, England and Spain, but nothing like a pilgrimage type thing.

As far as Blacks researching Europeans...... ain't that what we all spent 12 years in publiKKK schools doing?

I can understand and respect her point view; hence, I am one of those who view myself as a Black American by race...however, my nationality is African....I can understand native Africans not connecting with us (well me) because I do not connect with them. However, I hold a high-level of admiration for them.

My thoughts are more along the line of the brainwashing---the standards of life----implanted in the Black woman's brain....about marriage and family. Notice, Blacks have a high devotion for family and religion.....ever wonder why?

High devotion for family and religion.... hmmm.... I would have to challenge and qualify that with you.....

Earlier generations of Blacks (i.e. those that were involved with the Civil rights movement) had high devotion for family and religion because our neighborhoods and social segments were set up to facilitate and teach this.  I would submit to you that today's paradigm for the Black community is very different - and those teaching have been diluted and in some cases, dismissed.

The rise and prevalence of gangs is one example I would submit as a 'evolution' (but not necessarily good one) of this.  Research and statistics suggest that with the rise of the single parent household, more children grew up without close guidance and parental involvement and the neighborhood gang became the subsitute for that - and with it came its own rules and standards, which are different from the previous traditional Black household of the 60s and 70s.
I also believe that the Black American church icon and ideal has also been eroding over the last 20 years - they are no longer the total epicenter of the Black community.  However - the connection that Blacks feel for religion hasn't eroded, I don't believe.  We are just members of integrated churches, instead of being concentrated in our own.

As far as brainwashing - not sure that I completely agree with that so much as cultural assimilation without retention of previous history and purpose.  I think that as we have progressed in generations, we have not taken care to preserve and protect and teach our previous history and are losing it while adopting what we see presently.

Dang!  you made me get all thoughtful and shiot today!  I was sooo planning to spend the day being GOOFY!!!   LOL!!

I just have to correct a fallacy...Africa is a Continent, not a Country. It is made up of Many Nations of which most African Americans do NOT know which one their (our) ancestry originates. This will become easier as DNA tracing become more pervasive and affordable. Also, "Race" is a false political anomaly that is almost exclusive to "Western" Culture in setting up rights and priviledges in the society. In  African Nations, there is No such thing as "race". Cultural ties determine priviledges. In the nation of Kenya alone there are over 300 different Cultures, ie, Ibo, Yeraba...
