Hi,  I dont currently live in Chicago, but I was born and raised there.  I frequently go to Chicago.

Donna gave you some good suggestions.  Downtown Chicago is Safe and Fun!  Lots of shopping and restaurants.  You may want to check out the Navy Pier which is downtown area. Here is the link:  http://www.navypier.com/.   
Check out this site also. http://www.soulofamerica.com/chicago-guide.phtml they give a good listing of places to check out in Chicago.  I always check this site when travelling to other major cities.  You may even want to go to priceline.com and bid on a 4 or 5 star hotel in downtown Chicago.  You can get a good deal and there is really no bad hotel downtown.  My friend and I bid and got the SwissHotel for 70 bucks a night.  Could be because it was the winter month around the Christmas holiday..  May be slightly more during the summer since most people try to stay away from the Windy City in the Winter.

You have gotten really great suggestions...my 2 cents....stay at the Renaissance in Oak Brook and shop there...I love Oak Brook...hopefully we can make it fit with our M&G ...would love to meet you as well.
