Societal construct... Men are taught from an early age not to worry about their appearance. Women are taught that their appearance controls their destiny. Looks give women an edge and society has bought into that... men put their stock in knowledge and skills.
Back when I was doing online dating I noticed that all men said they were good looking no matter what they looked like.
Now when it comes to xes.... men really don't care what women look like. All cats look alike in the dark. LOL
