Does Size Matter?

Don't even go there!  I'm talking about the size of your engagement ring. 

I frequent (well I lurk anyway) another website and most of the folk on there with their shallow ass, materialistic ass, self-righteous ass attitudes just tick me off on a daily basis. 

Anyway...the question was DOES THE SIZE OF YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING MATTER?

A lot of the replies were somewhere along of the road of

"yeah, I need at least a 2 carat ring", " you can see my ring from down the street",  "he don't really care about you if you don't have a big engagement ring".

this is why I stay in lurk mode...The size of the ring don't mean **** Ugh! The shallowness and materialism of people just disgusts me.  I don't care if you got a 100 carats or a cigar band on your finger, it doesn't make a damn difference.  I didn't have a ring in the beginning and I've been married for 17 years so GTFOH!  I also didn't waste my money on no big wedding just for the sake of showing off and going into debt.  I used my money for a down payment on a house.

Now if you got money to splurge on such things then so be it but it is not an absolute neccessity or recipe for a successful marriage.

The size of a ring doesn't matter at all to me.  I say newlyweds should take overpriced ring money and put it on a house or a nice trip.  

Personally it could pay for me going somewhere I'd take the memories over a rock,

While I don't think it's the "recipe for a successful marriage", I personally wouldn't want a small ring.  I told my husband "I'm a big girl, so I want a big ring"....LOL 

If he couldn't  afford it when we got married I would have preferred to wait until he got one that I wanted, instead of settling with a smaller one.  That's just me and my opinion.  It's something that I will have to wear for the rest of my life, so it was important to me that it was what I wanted.

No, It didn't I have wore the ring he picked out for 35 years.  It wasn't that big but I loved it we just made 35 years and I let him talk me in to another ring 3 carats to this day I hate the thought of not being about to wear my original ring. It's just in a safety box, I think of the money I could have saved but he always wanted to replace the ring LONGGGGG story. Ha got the topic before I open it was also hearing people talk about the size of the rings lately.  I wish my DD would have you there money on a down payment on a house but not. But she set a small budget a stuck to it to the dime.

Only great thing about the ring is that we got it when we came back after the 2nd hurricane.  And the jewelry stores was competing price with each other and > We got a fantastic deal better than 60% off. Yes I no it was a deal because I had just loved at it the year before and had the booklet with the price. So the didn't get time to price it up to do the 60% off

I am supposed to be engaged later this summer, early fall - he KNOWS not to come at me with less than a stunner..... LOL

BUT - he knows I ain't going nowhere neither - so - bottom line, I would marry him if my ring were a small vial of sand on a necklace - cause I will love him long enough for it to become a diamond

I also told him how I want the proposal to go - and he better have paid attention - I'll be pissed if it ain't according to plan.......
