Baby Food

I'm getting ready for the big day. I've ordered my vitamins, trying samples of different protein drinks and powders, tried the Greek yogurt (I'm gonna miss my Yo-plait), got some FF chicken and beef broths, SF pudding and jello, etc.

I was reading through the dietary guidelines I got from my nutritionist and one suggestion was baby food during pureed food phase.  Has anyone tried baby food?  What was your experience?

I did briefly. But the only thing that ever tastes decent are the fruits and desserts. But I believe they are basically devoid of sugar.
Why are you saying goodbye to YoPlait?
Greek yogurt does have higher protein, but it's weird. I do eat it for the protein but not often. I add jello powder and fruit to it to make it more palatable. Something you could try further down the road.

I thought YoPlait had too much sugar but I just checked the one I ate this morning and it has 15 grams which is the max I am allowed per serving so I guess I don't have to give it up afterall.  The Greek yogurt was OK and it definitely has more protein  and less sugar but it tasted more like cottage cheese.  Thanks!

I used baby food because it was easy to take to work.  It is extremely bland and you have to season it up.  The good thing about it is that the portion size is exactly right so no guessing is needed.

It taste like cottage cheese to me.  It was OK.  It has 15 grams of protein and very little sugar.  Very different taste from regular FF yogurt and way more expensive.  If you decide to try it just get one.

Marlo, it is similar to sour cream, consistency wise. Not taste wise... I don't know how to describe the taste. I couldn't eat it plain. But what I do, that I learned from someone on the RNY board, is to add some SF Orange Jello power (to taste) and one of those single serving cups of mandarin oranges. It's VERY good that way.

My nutritionist told me, "no baby food". It does not have enough protein for an adult!

Yo-plait comes in Low-fat and so does the Greek yogurt I mix the Greek yogurt with a little honey, its not too bad!

Like other posters said - real baby food is very bland - but soft and smooth it is...when I got into the pureed stage after about a week or so - I fell in love with Gerber's Meat Stix - they are little vienna sausage like meat stix - and although they are a bit high on the fat they do have 10 g of protein a baby food bottle of them weighs 2.5 oz and has 110 calories.  When I was jonesin for some meat [and couldn't eat any - I love chicken but pureed chicken tastes gross] the meat stix fit the bill.  Truth be told I had some for lunch today.

Best wishes,

Rhonda
