For the first time in a long time, I am using the race card.....
Oh - true dat!!! The first go around I DIDN'T do a consult with this doc because he was Black - ain't that a kick in the pants? I felt like I would get 'better' results with a White doc. So much for that theory.......
However - there were some 'red' flags that, with hindsight, should have sent me packing -so I have been EXTRA cautious with this one on this go around.

Hey there MM,
Girl go with that "gut" feeling inside. I think you know you found the right person, you are just starting to second guess yourself. Put the dr. in Gods hands and you will be fine. Just pray girl, and remember "IF YOU PRAY, DON'T WORRY AND IF YOU WORRY, DON'T PRAY".
Girl you are going to be lookin da bomb!! and you know this maaaan! (as Chris Tucker would say)

You got a point. I did the second guess thing last time and switched docs from the one I had my approval with - and that got me jacked up. I didn't repeat THAT mistake.
I'm a praying woman and the doc is a praying man - he made a comment in my consult last week - that God guides his hands. My WLS said something similar to me too when I was a pre op.
I'm going to trust that's Jesus talking to me.
thanks lady!!!!

this doc has worked on quite a few bruhs and sistas - comes HIGHLY recommended, has a CLEAN record with the Texas Medical Board

We do have unique skin issues and you need somone who has expertise in this area. This doctor has treated a lot of patients who look like you and they've had good outcomes. He sounds like a good logical choice whether or not there was some emotional bias involved in your decision. It's not good to go into any surgery feeling fearful, so do whatever you need to do to feel good about this and to take care of yourself.
I understand that familiarity brings comfort thing. I've never had a hair stylist who wasn't black. I've never had a gyn who wasn't female.

LOL - I pulled a Colin Powell tho - so I am techically 'on the other side' for the moment, so I should get a pass!

Actually I don't see anything wrong with choosing an African American surgeon. I am not happy with how my scarring turned out after my breast reduction and even though I brought the fact that I tend to over scar and keloid to the attention of my surgeon and was and still am a bit disappointed that more attention wasn't paid and no advice was giveen post op to help me with scar reduction.
When you have someone working on your body and you have to live the rest of your life with the results, you have to go with your gut instinct and hope to all high heavens that the person you choose will do right by you.
Wishing you the best.

Thanks MJ! It's actually a scarring issue from the surgery last year that got me approved for a TT this go around - it's being billed as a repair procedure to the scar from jack leg surgeon. So that makes a LOT of sense - I got NO instruction about scarring from Mr. BS last year.

Girl please the muddda clucker that jacked me up actually got a chance to do a revision on my left breast and there was very minor improvement. The thing that bothered me the most is after I got home from the scar revision my eyes were bloody-not bloodshot, but night of the living dead whites of the eyes bright red; i also had wierd muscle aches over various parts of my body. Apparently during the surgery I had respiratory distress/broncho spasms-the kind of shyt that can kill a person if not treated adequately.
I called the docs office before the post op appt to see what could casue such a thing and after being lleft on hold indefinately someone came back and told me everything went smoothly. Being the nurse I am I requested all my records from his office and the surgery center, only to find out what went on.
So let me just say you have to do your homework and go with the person that will keep you SAFE and give you good results. My insurance paid for my original surgery and I know I will need surgery when i get to my goal. I will be so much smarter when choosing a surgeon the 2nd time around.
