Welcome, this is the place to be.

Not a VSG but I think its a geat procedure.  Nice little stomach and no banding.  Its the only 'restrictive only' procedure I was interested in.  During the pre op process, the surgeon suggested an RNY was better for me.   So here I am...

Hey thurr and welcome,
please accept my apology for not responding earlier, I hadn't read your post because I was in and out all day.

I was sleeved 3 months ago on tomorrow. My surgery was done open and not laparascopically so I can't compare the difference in terms of surgical pain. I was back up and running within 2 weeks but felt normal at the 1 month mark.

I am currently down 50 lbs which came quite easily.

The pros are that the vsg is now being compared to the Rny weightloss wise. It was earlier compared to the lapband but the vsg puts you at the sweetspot restriction immediately.

Another pro is the rules, protein first, then veggies, and if there is room (which there isn't) starches. No drinking 30 mins before or after eating, but that is universal. We are also required to watch our carb intake and take a multivitamin daily.

I have also found the vsg to be an easily managable surgery. Very little food satisfy me and since the hunger hormone is taken I find myself not eating enough leading to stalls. Today I treated myself to a few more carbs to up the intake and break the stall. (smothered potatos yum).

The cons for me are:

1. Cooking, it really makes NO sense to me. It is hard cooking a small amount since I live alone. I will need to start freezing meals as to not waste food. Lately I've been eating at my moms since it's such a small amount it doesn't make a difference.

2. Needing probiotics, my whole anatomy changed but the probiotics work for me thank God.

Tips:

1. Follow the rules and you will be fine.

2. You WILL stall and when you do start measuring. I worried myself silly during a two week stall but was losing inches. I am doing the same now and am not worried.

3. Take pictures every month so that you can see the changes.

That's all that I can think of for now, but keep in touch if you have other questions
