OT: Hello. Is anybody out there?

I'm what I laughingly call a heathen, or agnostic in other circles.

I used to do that too, but as soon as **** would hit the fan for me I'd be like, "Oh Lawd...  Help me, Lawd...  Lawdy, Lawdy, Lawdy..."

"I think organized religion is a crock, so the discovery of other life wouldn't affect that for me."

I think organized religion is a crock also but one's personal spiritual belief in a higher power is very real to me.  There is a difference in my book.

Who woulda thunk it? We agree on something!

1.   Absolutely!  Ignorance is not bliss.

2.  Absolutely not!  Nothing in my faith confirms God said there is only us.  No need for God to tell me his business.  He tells me what I need to know.

3.  No.  With so large a universe there's room for more than one planet to support life.  I'd be more suprised to learn for certain we are alone than we are not alone.  Nevertheless, I refuse to eat the apple sauce, or drink the koolaid, or get new Nike's and a duffle bag for a ride on anybodies mother ship.

They giving out Nike's now? Damn!  All I got was a shot of Patron and a crooked smile from the stewardesses?

1.  If there was a discovery of life on other planets (and the gov't told us about it - y'all know how they do us sometimes ) would you want to know more about that life?

Yes. infact I have ALWAYS been a firm believer that there IS life on either other or another planet somewhere. My theory is why would God stop with just Earth, he is God. We know that there is life in Heaven, Hell, Paradise, and Earth, so I just believe that there will someday be some great surprises coming.

2.  If there was a discovery of life on other planets, would you still subscribe to your current religious beliefs?

Yes

3. If there was a discovery of life on other planets, would feel that the world was coming to an end soon?  Why or why not.

I already feel that so the discovery of life on other planets would not change my thoughts on the subject.

Awesome post!

Answers:

1) yes

2) most definitely

3) I believe we are in the end days regardless of our "officially" discovering life on other planets.  Just because we just found them does not mean they weren't there all along.  We're just slow on the uptake.  God has a plan and the time and days are numbered.  It is what it is.

Love is all there is, ever was or ever will be...

1.  If there was a discovery of life on other planets (and the gov't told us about it - y'all know how they do us sometimes ) would you want to know more about that life?

Its kinda hard to believe anything the govt tell us these days. I would not want to know anything about them...because all that would do is fugg up my chances of winning the lottery. You know...now we have to compete with ET and the Brother from another planet   foreseeing the future and shioot...winning all the loot and bankrupting the system. Naw...my chances are already next to nil. They can stay where they are for real. Let me keep my fantasy.

2.  If there was a discovery of life on other planets, would you still subscribe to your current religious beliefs?

Yes, it probably would confirm my belief. Agnostic Theist (recent realization). I believe in a higher power but believe that its virtually unknown. I have a very personal relationship with my God. Can't be defined by others.  No way to prove or disprove the current ideologies. So I would stand strong with my current belief.

3. If there was a discovery of life on other planets, would feel that the world was coming to an end soon?  Why or why not.

No...I would want to think more optimistically at first. Perhaps think that it would actually save our planet...due to alternative energy sources, perhaps a place of refuge if in fact the sun fries this planet. I would think first that we are about to go to another level as a species until I see evidence that they are about to start blasting our azz with their WFEDs, Weapons for Earth's Destruction....Then all bets are off...I am going back to .
