New Post-op Tip of The Day
If you don't remember any other tip that I post please remember this one !!!!! Whatever you do, wait before you start adding carbs and sweets back into your diet. These foods are addictive and once you start eating them, even in small amounts it is hard to stop. This is how the food addiction cycle starts back again and the weight gain starts again. If there is one thing that I could change, that would be not eating the junk-food carbs and sweets because I now crave them. It is a struggle not to have them because I know that protein is always my first choice of food. WLS does not change my brain and my desire for food so flipping the switch for trigger foods has awaken a beast that is hard to fight. Choose your food wisely.
Truth spoken here!!!
Starting down a dangerous road (allowing 'just a taste') is the 1st step to a slippery slope of regain!
Do not awaken the carb monster! That so-in-so will fight you tooth and nail.
Carbs are truly addictive, especially for those who have lost weight, no matter how they lost it, and most especially WLS patients.
Sadly, it's no different than 'just a social drink' for a recovered alcholic. It's THAT serious!
Neenaj, draw that hard line in the sand of ZERO junk/carbs for yourself & push through the toughest period (the first week-10 days) and the cravings will fade. Not to simplify this, but those first days are the toughest. I got back on plan mid-April & thought I'd lose my mind, but I now have a handle on things again since the cravings for sweets & carbs has passed.
Best wishes!
~Lynn
