Lap Band Malfunction

Hello BAF. I hope that if anyone has experianced or know of someone who has , they will share. I had the band May 2005 and as of December 2007 noticed that something was wrong. The surgeon did scopes and swallows and decided there was a leak. The port was changed, but nothing else changed.

I am currently considering having it replaced but my eperiance has be a little fearful. Will it happen again, will he get in and find that he can't do it. I am being charged for a failed port change and the thought of having this happen again scares the crap out of me.

Has anyone had this experiance? I was told there was a possillity that if it could be proved to be band malfuction that might be able to get Allegen to pay.

Any suggestions, advice would be appreciated.

Get off BAF and go to the lap-band board.

Isn't it obvious that I am trying find someone in my situation. You so silly. I saw your picture and was like "I think I know her" so I decided to send you the howdy. Then I decided I would post. Heck I almost could not figure out how to and was going to abort. lol How are you working and keeping tabs on the BAF?

I multi-task during conference calls. I responded to your message, text, and post all during the same call.     Call me later.

If you dont mind me asking...can you clarify the  " something is wrong " part

Also, you said the port was changed but nothing else happened ?

Does that mean that you never resumed losing weight ?

I havent had that experience but would like to know what your experience was so that if it should happen to me.....I would be informed of all of the red flags.

I know the insurance companies are tricky and dont want to assume the responsiblity of the first surgery unless they feel they are somehow saving in the longrun...but its worth it to advocate for yourself and start documentating things so you can try to get them to do it over...especially if the thing never worked right.

Best wishes !

I successfully lost 83 lb and then I noticed the weight had stop coming off. The surgeon checked everything and decided it might be a leak in the port/tubing. I had them replaced and there was no restriction. The surgeon put in 4 cc's and when he retrieved there was only 2 cc's. ??????

Got you and I can understand your frustration.  There comes a  time when you have to  become a " thorn " in folks sides.

Im good for that...  if you need me to help with a letter...let me know.

Im pretty good at being professional and still stating the case.

If you got 4 cc's and he was only able to remove 2 cc's  -thats definately a problem.

Maybe you can get you a REALIZE band when they realize that theres a problem with what you have.

Whatever the case..dont give up demanding for the problem to be corrected.

Congrats on the 83 lbs lost......thats no small feat...
but I totally understand your sentiments cause theres nothing like getting to GOAL
