Fat free yogurt seems to do the trick for me (in addition to drinking lots of water).

I take a generic Colace pill everyday with my iron. I was constipated reallll bad a couple of months ago.  I took everything people suggested...miralax, dieter's tea, suppositories. I went 4 days w/o going and gained 5 lbs. I felt miserable. Someone suggested Magnesium Citrate liquid. It's found where the enemas are at the drug stores. You drink it and it cleans you out pretty fast. Don't let it go for a long time like me. I got hemroids as a result of my stubborn poop! Not fun

Ok....I see that Colace has the same active ingredient as ducolax...I took ducolax yesterday and today....the scale has moved up on me which got me worried because I have been a straight arrow on my eating this week...maybe I need to get the M.C. and cleanse and then start to take the stool softeners. I just do not want it to be habit forming, but thinking that we must take vitamins daily, maybe a s.f. is what I have to take for the rest of my life for the choice I have made on having my surgery.
Thanks!

My PCP said there is nothing wrong with taking a stool softener everyday, he's the one that suggested the generic's from Walmart. I was low on iron and had to up the dose so the stool softeners are a MUST. Call your PCP and schedule an appoinment if it goes on and ask for reccomendations.

Here is a suggestion, instead of depending on laxatives add Activia light yogurt to your daily diet. That stuff really worksand it taste great.  Its also a good source of calcium and friendly bacteria which is great for your colon. Try it for two weeks or its free....that's the company's challenge. You will be surprised to see it will keep you regular.
