I am totally barfing SICK of hearing how much RNY sucks!!!!!

I have RNY and use NDSAIDS all the time - directed by my surgeon that it's not a problem and it's never been an issue for me.  As far as the quantity needed for arthristis - I don't have it so I've never taken the time to research that - but I'm sure it's something she should pose to her surgeon.

It's just KILLER the folk who flat out tell folk that if they are sucessful now - the end is coming and they will be a fatass again in 5...4..3..2..1.. years or that will be limited in terms of lifestyle or something in the future.

This whole thing is such a personal choice - after the whole DS v RNY war first started, hell - it had ME second guessing until I sat down and re-looked at everything and if I had to make the choice TODAY - it would be RNY for me!   different strokes for different folks - doesn't make someone better, smarter or more likely to succeed.  Has anyone suggested that perhaps RNY stats are getting ****** up by meat market surgeons who are cutting ANYBODY regardless of their TRUE issues and the failures are because of that VS. DSers having to fight TOOTH and NAIL so maybe they are more likely to succeed anyway??  There's a lot of factors, I am sure - but we shouldn't be telling anybody their choice is anything BUT their choice and wishing them the best.

True true, it's such a personal decision. There are people that gain weight on every board. If I sit around and eat cake, pies, and cookies best believe I will put all the weight back on. I think that more people need to focus on permanent lifestyle changes than just being compliant to get the weight off. Too bad they don't fix a lil bit of our brain while they have us knocked out LOL

Maybe NSAIDS for a short period of time with an RNY is ok? I don't know. But everything I have read about RNY when I was doing my research into which surgery I wanted said that it posed health risks including ulcers.

That could be true about the stats. I read somewhere that the number of post RNY patients that keep up on thier follow up care after one year was low. I know not supplementing with an RNY could pose serious health risks but because of all of the malabsorbtion with a DS it could happen a lot faster. So we HAVE to keep up on our follow up care like a hawk! Maybe that helps stay on point too. Who knows? All of these suregeries are based on what YOU make it. Just figuring out which one you would be comfortable with for the rest of your life is the first step. Actualy sticking to it is a whole nother story.

But these surgery wars really crack me up.The judging, bickering, spouting out mis-information about other surgeries, it's crazy. How da hell would I know that someone is going to gain it back? Karma is a bytch!! I just wish some people would think about that before shooting somebody down.

I will tell you from personal experience about supplementation with RNY - get off track and see what happens - I ended up in the ER, or in my doc's office twice behind getting off my routine.  DS ain't THAT different.

But you are right about that krama thing - Imma keep watching to see what color the walls end up!  LOL

If I want food to control me then rny sucks
If I want to eat 3000 cals day as some brag about then rny sucks
If I want to eat big portions of whatever I want whenever I want rny sucks
If I want to eat as a emotional response to my life rny sucks
If I want to eat out of boredom rny sucks
If I want to ignore my bodies need for strenous exercise rny sucks
If I want to graze all day and overeat out of habit rny sucks
If I refuse to change my self destuctive attitudes towards food rny sucks

If I want a normal healthy physical and emotional relationship with food

RNY ROCKS!!!

you are off the chain.  As much as I LOVE to eat - 3K calories a day would be too much - not that I didn't down that pre-op, but I am glad to have to live in my 1800 cal zone these days - it's forced me to make smarter, more balanced choices and quite frankly - I am APPRECIATING the lifestyle changes I have had to make.  But - remember - you will regain your weight within the next 10-60 years while all the DSers stay skinny................

Those are a whole lot of stereotypes and misinformation. I am a DSer and do not fit the bill on any of those items. I'm also a DSer that thinks that the RNY doesn't suck lol and fits some people.

Sorry but these types of posts don't help pre-ops or post-ops trying to understand the different surgeries.

People really should just stop asking that question--I'm not being mean, but if you can't sit with your doctor, research, and then make that decision on your own, you are not ready for any type of WLS ~just my opinion~

Each surgery has positives and negatives....I remember back when I had RNY, DS was slammed because NO ONE knew much about the surgery now. Now, studies show that the band and DS will be the preferred choice of surgeons.

I know people with RNY who gained back weight ~raising my damn hand~, I know people with DS who gained back weight....I know people with the band who gained back weight!

It has LITTLE to do with the surgery (I'd say, 97 to 3), but MORE to do with the person (even me with my lazy ass).

My point, unless you had RNY, shut up.....unless you had DS, shut up......unless you had the band or any version of the band, shut up!

Like all other things in life, WLS is now stereotyped.

I focus not on my disabilty; my focus is on my ABILITIES.

***********************************LONG POST WARNING*******************************************

#1MM and all of you Vets; don't stop posting and/or replying to questions posed by those curious about the surgery PLEASE!!!!  Your insight is helpful in more ways than you think.  I know I posed a question regarding personal experiences with Realize/Lap and RNY.  My inquiry was not to know what is better because I know that is a personal decision but what made it best for YOU and how are YOU dealing with it. The insight provided was great and brought some great things to light that is helping me to make an even more informed decision.  You (#1MM) provided me some wonderful feedback and I appreciated your straightforwardness.

I had another page on this site in 2006.  Don't remember the password and all that jazz, that is why I had to set up this new page. So techinically I am not a newbie I just never posted anything.  I have been looking into having WLS since 2005.  So trust me I have researched until I can't research any more! From all of the surgeries I've heard I know that my choices have been narrowed to Realize or RNY.  In 2006 when I wanted to do it badly I went to a seminar.  After hearing the cost and knowing my insurance then did not cover it; I decided to diet.  I went from 255lbs then to 180lbs by exercise and dieting.  I have since then fluctuated CONSTANTLY between those weights which I know is not a good thing.  To not have the sugery then was my choice. But I am set on doing it now.  I know I am capable of controlling my eating habits and I love exercise. So I am sure I will be successful.

I have learned WAY more from this website and these boards than I have learned on the internet.  The information that is given in those seminars don't even compare to the information you guys provide.  Now trust me I am not trying to kiss up because I don't care for the taste of sh#t (lol).  I am just stating don't dry up the well of knowledge you offer from those of us who are thirsty to drink and be in the know.  Overlook the zealots and continue to offer YOUR insight. We appreciate it.

MM,

One of the troll**** the VSG board trying to scare someone who was looking at having the sleeve and then maybe the DS if they didn't lose enough weight with the sleeve.  She was trying to make them have the DS in one procedure because blah, blah, blah.  I think I am going to have to block those folks.  I've never gotten into it with them, but they make my blood boil!  You know, I never look at that message board.  It must be boring because they seem to always to be posting  on other surgery boards!
