Hair Care before Surgery?

Another question BAF.

For the ladies primarily.....

My hair is relaxed. I was thinking I may need braids before surgery so that I don't have to worry about my hair post op for a few weeks. If I got them I would get them this weekend, giving myslef about a week and a half to recover from the fresh braid syndrome (where they are tight and it hurts to move your head, lol).....

Did anyone else do this or contemplate this?

I am terrible styling my own hair without the help of a hairdresser!

So...how was your hair pre-op/post-op????

Thanks!!!!

I opted for a straw set two days before surgery. Didn't do the braids because I was cheap.

Also, I wouldn't worry about FBS, the gas is going to give you enough hell that you will care less about the head pain.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

I had small tight curls tracked in about 10 days prior to surgery.  They almost look like a cute curly fro and I don't have to do a thing to them.  I needed not to be bothered with styling my hair also during this period, and I am so glad I did that.  I'm still taking Biotin everyday also.

I got a fresh relaxer and then just threw it up in a clip. The last thing on my mind was my hair for the first few days. All I wanted was some good pain meds...the heck with my hair. lol

I pressed mine two days before surgery with a flat iron and cream press then slept in a silk cap.  I did not do a thing to it for a week.

go ahead and do it cause that first week the last thing you wanna do is fuss with your hair (a style with no hair pins though cause they are not allowed for surgery }

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
The funniest thing of all is that since I've been over 300 pounds I hardly ever get my hair done.
So why should I care after surgery! LMAO

Right now I have a sewn - in so I think I'm going to take it out and just get braids.

I had a relaxer retouch a few days before surgery (my hair was long) and while in the hospital, I used scrunchies or clips for a head-top ponytail that my hubby or girlfriends could comb easily.  I also took my own satin pillowcase like I use at home to prevent breakage.

I'm glad you thought about what to do with your hair in advance.  Your torso will be very sore & reaching up over your head to do hair may not be possible for a while.

If you do opt for braids, be sure they are not very tight.  My friend had hers done the day before surgery, and they were too tight for comfort.  She said she was a bit uncomfortable because of that.

Best wishes to you!
