Love...what is its true meaning?
Man, I tell you BAF. I have really spent this last week dealing with family, friends, and my personal relationship. I mean, do people take the word love for granted. Doesnt love involve trust and commitment? So I have been thinking this and I wonder why the people who say they love me that I am closest too...dont trust and respect my decision. Everything in life involves risk. So it has brought me to the point where I am reevaluating relationships I have with everyone, even my family members.
Am I alone or have you guys here in BAF been experiencing the same thing?

Hello! Your decision to have WLS will cost you friendships/family. YOU have to the make the right choice for YOU. You are exactly right...everything involves risk...when you get in your car to go to the corner store that is a risk. I hope that your reevaluations bring you peace and remember to not let anyone steal your joy. Good luck to you.

You are not alone at all. They are speaking out of love but they are also speaking out of fear. The love is that they are concerned. The fear is you changing and worst yet, you dying. You are going to have many changes to come your way because you are NOW taking control of YOUR life.....YOURS. You are responsible for you and you have to take care of you. They will understand when they see the new and improved you. They will understand when you are still here 60 yrs from now but guess what....if they never understand, it they will be ok.

I thank God all of my immediate family and friends supported me fully. I thought initially my Dad would have a problem with it but he didnt at all, he was right by my bedside from the point I went into surgery until I came out. I agree was another poster, they speak of of fear sometimes. Give them sometime and they will hopefully come around and if not know you are making a decision to improve and extend your quality of life and unfortunately like everything else in life it comes with risk.
