After reading somebody's post it seemed like to me that they were not happy with their surgery. But I also see people who are VERY happy with the changes. How do you feel about your surgery? I know at first there is pain and struggling, but what about a year down the road? Do you still have unbearable cravings for food that you haven't eaten in so long? Do you get the urge to say 'bump it' and just eat whatever, whenever? Do you have ANY regrets at all???? I am still in the process of meeting my insurance requirements, but I just want to know what the deal REALLY is.

After so many months of having your surgery, do you still feel as optimistic as you did before you had the surgery?

Please tell the truth!! Thanks!!

Im only 3 mo out of my surgery, and after my 1st stall. I was just so upset, and frustrated! And at that moment I had wished I didnt get my WLS done, but after learning that it was normal, and that I would have times that i didnt lose weight. I got over it. However, I still have my days of weakness. Like I had my 3 mo check up a few weeks ago, and got on the scale at my dr.s office and had only lost 7 lbs in a month. I was so emotional, I didnt want to hear anything he said cuz in my head I thought "OMG... Im only 3 mo out and my weight lose is already slowing down. Its gonna stop working" but this last weekend I dropped 4 lbs. I think every one goes that, until u finally get used to.
I miss food allot!!! Especially sweets and Ice cream, Im sure every one suffers a lose when it comes to not being able to eat like before. We just have to remember that the way we ate b4 is the reason why we got to the weight we where and had to turn to surgery. If I need a sugar fix, I will go get some sugar free low carb frozen yogurt. U have to find other ways to compensate for your cravings with out beng eating again. Its not easy, but the pay off is what makes me keep doing what Im doing. When I see the weight start to come off and the size of my clothes get smaller, it makes me over joyed and gives me the motivation to work with my surgery.

Well I have done my fair share complaining about my surgery, but I am down 70 lbs on a good day.  The bad thing I still have a good 120 lbs before I get to my personal goal.  While I am not where I wanna be I am so far from where I was.  Before surgery I was literally on a fast food diet.  I ate at the hospital cafeteria for breakfast and lunch and ate take out that I picked up on my way home.

Nowadays, while I'm no Martha Stewart I cook, and explore with recipes more often than before.  Being 2 years out and with a decent amount of restriction I can eat small pieces of toasted bread, and I so enjoy them, but no huge foot long subs or Big Macs for me.  I am more active.  While I'm no gym rat I do more than sit in front of the sofa and veg or go and drink since I simply have more energy.

I think you'd be surprised.  There are more ppeople happy with their new lives, they just are out busy living them, not sitting on a msg board trying to figure out what they're doing wrong and still struggling to reach their goals.`

You've got to remember whichever surgery you choose to go with, it will only be a tool.  You can eat around all the surgeries and set your self up for failure if you're not ready to make the lifestyle change.

Hello I am going to keep it real with you. I have lost a 100 lbs still I did not reach my goal but my own worst enemy is myself. I can eat certain things I am not suppose to. when I am stressed I tend to go back to some of the bad things but then I catch myself. this. whole weightloss surgery is a struggle. I have had the opportunity of having both surgeries the band and the RNY and honey I thank god for both.. but I am in need of a diet pill to help curb my appetite. In the beginning I was on this board daily and once the 100 lbs came off girl I was doing me. but now I am up 10 lbs and I refuse to get back in to the size 24 pants I took off I now wear a 14 and want to one day get into a size no smaller then a 10 but I want to get there. so I am coming back for the support and to support my people. so girl everyday it is a struggle but this is a fight I tend to win. I wish you much success on your journey and be blessed

Howdy,

Great question. I have had surgery twice and was set to go complete the second half of my current surgery the VSG to the full (DS), but my surgeon and I decided that things are going well enough with the sleeve that I will not need to do so.

Both of my surgeries were restriction only procedures. My first surgery the band served its purpose for about a year. I lost a total of about 50 lbs until problems began which led to a total unfill for a year and a half, me gaining back to my highest weight of 247 and then 40 additional lbs. In the end I was not happy. I wont say that I regret it, but after finally having a surgery that is working for me makes me mad at myself for waiting longer than I should've to make the decision to have it.

Currently, I am VERY happy and pleased and I am very very optimistic because the tool gives me the extra boost that I need to stay on track. I miss nothing in regards to foods because I can basically eat whatever I want. The restrictive tool stops me from eating more than I should. I have made major changes in my diet and the tool has helped with that. I really have no desire to drink soda, or heat lots of greasy and carb laden foods because my taste buds have changed. My biggest issue has always been sweets, so that will be the challenge after my weight loss stops. I truly believe that my tool will provide me with enough restriction to keep me in check as time passes. I am currently down from my surgery day weight of 283 to 213 in 7 months. My surgeon feels that if I keep doing what I am doing that I will easily lose another 60 lbs or more by the time that my weightloss slows down.

I had this whole thing in my head to say in response but then my PC locked up on me and I really don't feel like typing it all over again  but I do want to tell you this:  If you need the surgery; then get the surgery. Period.  Even the best of us will feel down about it at some point or another but trust me we're all the better for having had it than if we continued to lie to ourselves about just eating better to try and better or condition.

Peace.

I'm happy with my surgery wish I would have done it years ago.

It's getting to be the time of year that I hate the time changing. I've been looking for food , I don't buy junk and I'm not going out for it.(THANK GOD I DON'T HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND STILL NEED TREATS, I DON'T EVER buy THE GBIES ANYTHING SWEET. Last week I saided forget it and ate a donut, mine you I've  had a few in the past year.  Well my tool had me pull off the highway into a parking lot and hang my head out of the door.  I'm lucky I did pass out. It was to wayyyyy to sweet, think I don't know any better huh. In the pass 2 years I've only done several stupid things and I learn real quick 3rd time never come.
I'm not going back into a 22-24 at my age I now enjoy kids, My Gbies. And I love shopping and buying my size 10.

GOOD LUCK. I WISH YOU WELL AND A GREAT JOURNEY

I have no regrets - wouldn't change a thing.  The 386 me is a distant memory - and I do struggle at times to 'stay on track' - once you're out of the honeymoon, it really is about if you changed your lifestyle.  If you don't, you'll see yourself slide and the weight creep up.

I am trying to get about 10 more lbs off to feel 'comfortable' - I had a good ten sneak up and hop on my back and I gotta shake them hoes!  LOL

But - thanks to the tool - as long as I fall back in line, things fall into place... and fall off.

Good luck to you - keep us updated on your progress!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I LOVE my surgery and I would do it again in a heart beat!  I'm still trying to reach my personal goal (in which I i will).  Make the decision for you and you only. I'm happy I'm no longer 331lbs!!!
