I dunno about this....the MAJORITY OF AMERICA DO NOT LIKE THIS...AND THEY VOTE...so it will be interesting to see if Obama makes a second term in office....this WILL affect a LOT of upper income folks who have stable jobs...meaning those who make over $50K per year and pay taxes...this WILL AFFECT their bottom line and they WILL SEE a DIRECT IMPACT IN their payroll checks.....but again I agree something had to be done the sad thing is the average middle class american don't realize that they WILL BE PAYING THESE PREMIUMS FOR the less fortunate.....

Pssttt...in case you didn't know, the majority of Americans voted for Gore and we ended up with Bush.

Anywho......

"this WILL affect a LOT of upper income folks who have stable jobs..."

It will HELP them. I was one of those "upper income folks" who had a stable job. I was laid off and now I'm finding having a difficult time getting state assisted insurance. Why? I get the maximum amount every two weeks for unemployment and I get a pension. *MY* issue is being able to OBTAIN insurance. Pre-existing conditions is a muffafukka. And unless you have had a stellar medical record for the past 10 years, the insurance companies will kick you to the curb.

The insurance company has been allowed to do this and I'm happy that our leaders are making a change.

from what i read (yes, read instead of heard), unless you make over 250,000 a year (family) or 200,000 (single), your income won't be touched.  this of course rules out touching the average middle class.

I am uninsured. I have a lump in my neck. Saw my doc today and she wants a biopsy. I can't afford a biopsy. This comes at a good time but how long will it take for it to truly be in effect? anyway, I am praying for way to afford this biopsy. Laterz

WOW.  I pray the best for you, man......

and for just that reason and many like you - those of us who have SHOULD take the tax hit.  Yea, I typically have the '**** tha fellow man' POV, but sitting in Urgent care with my deductible met and my insurance paying 100%, I listened to the nurse turn a lady away who was clearly ill because she couldn't pay the $200 charge up front........

My last ER visit they wouldn't let me leave without paying the $200.00 deductible from my previous insurance. I didn't even have my belongings on me. My mom had to whip out her credit card. Ridiculous!

I am sure that everyone on BAF has a story to tell. Like I stated earlier, my sister had all kinds of stories to share when she was an ER nurse. And she worked at Shock Trauma and Baltimore's University of Maryland hospital. When she got there, she was told that doctors and nurses rotate out every two years. She quickly learned why. BURNOUT. And depression a****ching people in the waiting room make heart wrenching decisions based on insurance, or lack of insurance.

The plan isn't perfect, but we needed something.

I make good money. I have no kids. I contribute to my retirement. I have a home and drive a decent car. I am blessed. I have no issues with my paycheck taking a hit if it means that another woman isn't passing on a pap smear or mammogram because she can't afford it. To even suggest it or even think that Americans don't like this is just short sightedness. Sure, some Americans will have an issue if Obama blows his nose. Some of us are willing to take a hit if it means that others are treated humanely.

That is all!

ou're right Ziggy, taking a hit on my taxes is worth it is worth is to know that ALL Americans will have access to preventative care. I rolled over my 401k into an IRA in case any emergencies popped up. I'm praying i can stay healthy enough until June and that I won't have to touch it.
