roux-en-y: how close to goal are you getting?
I've been reading about the different types of surgeries, and a lot of people seem to have success with roux-en-y. I know there are statistics about what percentage of excess weight is lost with each surgery.
But I've been looking at tons of before and after pictures on the site, and it seems a great deal of people lose more than 65% of their excess weight. So I just thought I'd ask how much people lost or are losing.
I weigh 375 so 65% would put me at about 230. I'm fine with that but I'm wondering how likely it would be to get any lower. Thanks.

Dear Emily,
I had RNY last November and have lost about 45% of my excess in six months. I wanted the RNY because of the greater and faster weight loss than the lap band. My doctor thinks I should be able to loose about 85% of my excess. I am finding from both personal experience and from reading these boards, that a major key to success is the patient's compliance. The statistics don't get to that, but it is an area where I feel I can have an impact. There will always be exceptions, of course, but a lot of people who post seem to loose more than the 65%.
Best of luck,
Sally
Emily,
I'm one year out as of tomorrow. I've lost 145 lbs which is 69% of my excess weight. I'm hoping to lose another 40 lbs, which would put me at 88%. But, the weight loss has been very slow over the last month. I exercise like crazy, but, really struggle with the urge to eat. That started when I was about 6 months out. I do hope I make it though, but, I know it isn't going to come without a whole lot of work and commitment from me!

i'm not at all mathematical, so i have no idea how to figure percentages, etc. but i can tell you my numbers!
i weighed 463 on day of surgery - today i weigh 209. i'm losing VERY slowly now, but hope to lose another 10 lbs. my doc's goal for me was 210, but i really want to make it to onederland!

Hey Emily,
Thats a pretty good question there. Personally I dont even have a goal weight. They give ya one at the doc's office but I am so into trying to get a healthy weight till I dont to much dwell on it. I have been like nearly four hundred pounds for so many years till I never knew anything else. But if I had to say ball park what I would like to be, shoot in the very low twos would even be fine right now to me... Good luck on your journey...
Hugs Marge
I started out at 398 lbs at one point I was 406 lbs I got down to between 193 and 197 . The doctor told me He could get me to about 210 lbs when I started. so I guess I am below goal. I am 19 months out. I just want to stay in one-der-land. My weight just seems to stay in this five pound range. I am very pleased with my surgery and how much better my life is now. I feel great. It is an 88 mile trip to my wls doctor office. Next week we have a support group meeting. I am going to ride my bicycle over there. When I first went to the wl center I had a hard time just walking into the place. Life is good.
