Hey Nanette, Welcome to the best message board around. You should start yakkin and not be so lurkin. We would love to have ya. First off... Not everyone is the same. Maybe your doctor wants you to be somewhere at this time weight wise. But let me tell you... I can read right now where some that have had surgery at the same time as around me and they have either blew my doors off passing me weight wise or some have lagged behind me. I learned very early on that noone is the same. And as long as you do your best and stick with the program to the best of your being then you have done your job. You already say you have had some issues with eatting and exercising. Well..... Thats the bottom line. So get that boot out and start kickin butt as they say.... This surgery I have learned also really quick like, that it takes patience... And thats something I was never given lol... So glad to see ya posting girl... Come back and let us know how you do. We are all in this together for the long haul... Hugs Marge

Your doctor would hate me then. I am 11 months out, and at surgery I was 365, and am now 242.5. I have been on a plateau since March, and also have had some eating issues w/ carbs. I do find once I eat them, I can't stop. I would agree that I should have lost more though, and am concerned my doctor will say the same. I wish you luck, but I think you've done an awesome job!

Nanette, Do you mind if I ask you how old you are? I'm 45 and haven't lost weight as fast as some of the other patients in my support group. I've also been through menopause. Luckily, my WLS center keeps telling us not to compare ourselves to others. But, we should do the best we can and then that is all we can do. Big hugs, Lori 384/239/199

Just wanted to send ya a hug. My surgery weight was 357 and I now weigh 248 almost 7 months later. please don't compare yourself to others but I feel for you with a Dr. that acts like that. I think any amount that one can lose is great no matter how long it takes you. I myself will never be a small perosn--- I know that--- my dr. knows that and they have told me that as long as I feel successful thats all that matters. You are doing great in my book . I am getting into that discouraged mode also and know I am only defeating myself in the long run. Lets both put on that happy face and be glad that we are in the place we are now instead of the morning of surgery ( that is the thought that keeps me happy each day LOL) Good luck on your journey, jennifer

If I understand this right, your doctor wants you to loose approximately 18 lbs. a month? Even with the first great month loss, that still seems high to me--after all there is the slow down as well after six months. In addition to age, I think we also have to look at how long you have had the weight. Those who were fat early in life seem to be slower at getting it to let go! I don't know your surgeon, but you need to remember that first and foremost he is a surgeon and trained as a surgeon--he is not a nutritionist, a specialist in metabolism, genetics, or any of the other fields that are related to obesity. He was trained to cut and stitch. And that's what you need him to do very, very well. But while you need to give his words the attention they are due--deal with the eating and exercise--they are not the words of God from the mount! Best of luck, Sally
