Cute Story
I just read a post where someone reported a child making rude comments about her size and the mother not doing anything. It reminded me of when I was managing a Catherine's store (a plus size clothing shop for women) years ago.
A small boy and his mother came into the store and were looking around. Everyone there, including the staff, were all overweight--or more. Suddenly the little boy says,"Mom, look at the huge lady!" Of course, everyone--except the child--was mortified. But when we looked in the direction he was looking, it turned out that the "huge lady" was our manequinn! She was huge because she was up on a base that made her very tall, especially to a small child.
I believe it is very important for parents to teach their children about "public behavior." There are things you simply do not say or do in public--even if you believe them. After all, everyone has a right to be an idiot if they choose. You just don't behave that way in polite society--as my grandmother would say. The sad thing is that many parents today don't understand that so they can't pass it on to their children.

Once when I was about 200 lbs, a kid and his mother walked into the laundry mat where I was washing my clothes and the kid shouted, "MOM, LOOK AT THAT FAT LADY", pointing at me! I just wanted to crawl under the tables and die.... The Mom didn't say or do a thing, but a very sweet older lady looked at me and said, in a voice loud enough for all to hear, "Honey, don't worry about what he said, God forgives little children"...... I don't know why, but that remark really helped me and I had no problem staying and doing the rest of my laundry.... Come to think of it, I think that little boy's mother left and went somewhere else....
