Bored & Blue Please Help
Hi, everyone, I am now 10 days postop, and I can't believe how bored I am... I never realized how much I ate for the shear entertainment value! It's actually getting me down. I almost feel like I am in mourning...
I am totally bored with this liquid diet, and I'm not even hungry... I guess I need to find something else to occupy my time.
Anybody else go through this? What did you do to get over it?
Thanks,
Kate J
Kate,
Yes, you have to mourn the loss of food in your life. With me, I went through the mourning period for a couple of months before my surgery. I already had the awareness of how important it was to me. But, many patients, like you don't realize it until after their surgery. It will get better, but, you will have to just tough it out until then. In the meantime, make sure you are following all your surgeon's instructions to the letter. That should be keeping you busy.
Good luck, this will be so worth it.

Dear Kate,
I had to do almost three weeks of liquid diet combined pre- and post-op, so I was so very ready for even soft foods.
As for filling up your time, I'd suggest a craft/hobby that you have always wanted to try. I took up knitting again. It gave my hands and my brain something to do. It has helped a lot, especially in the evenings.
And as for being blue, part of that is a result of the surgery. I felt that way for about a month. But knowing that it is normal and to be expected helped.
Best of luck,
Sally
