I AM MAD AS H@#@ AND I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE
Well hello everyone as some of you know I purchased a scale last week and I do understand that sacle vary but I need to know where I am at. My old scale said I was down to 350 my new scale says I am 368 which means I haven't lost what I thought I did. Then I began to reflect on the last few months. My kitchen on fire, staying in a hotel 12 pounds is nothing to frown up at it is still weight I have lost. What I am mad at is I started getting comfortable and stop exercising which was the reason the month before I lost 22 pounds well I am back and with a vengence. I will lose this weight. I am so tired of negative people that act like they are supporting you and really they are hurting you in the process. I know what I have to do and like the Nike commercials say "Just Do It". It is time for all of those that feel like it just isn't working for them to go back and check out what have you really been doing. I started eating carbs not to long ago and I need a few but not a lot. so just so I can get it out I am only down 87 pounds in almost 5 months. That really hurt to type that I thought I was 15 pounds lighter. But I will be there in the next couple of weeks. My offical weigh in day is on the 16 but I will be transitioning to monday's with everyone else. I just had to get this off my chest this morning. I didn't even sleep becasue I was worried about my weight. once a week is all I have to do with that scale and that is it.
Thanks for listening to me rant
Lorraine
Hi, Lorraine!
Whew! I'm pretty sure you burned off a couple of pounds after that vent!
Seriously, scales suck. I have a scale at home, but I don't trust it 100%. My scale says I'm losing weight, but I verify it at Kaiser every two weeks (they let me come over and use the scale without charging me a copay).
It's scary how quickly the bad habits will sneak back. I startled myself yesterday when I realized that in the course of one day, I ate 8 pairs of sugar free Popsicles. This came to 270 calories just in popsicles! It was an upsetting lesson in just how easy it is to take in extra calories without noticing it. I'm now rationed to 2 per day, because I didn't go through all this to not lose weight.
Hang in there, and remember we're all here for you!

Dear Lorraine,
First off, you can easily verify your scale by weighing a new 5 lb. bag of flour/sugar/etc. In the pre-digital type of scales, you could adjust it to be accurate. I don't know about your scale, but even if you can't adjust it, you'll know how much off it is.
I have always weighed just once a week--there is too much variation through the wee****ep an Excel spreadsheet that calculates how much I've lost, my new BMI, and the percentage of excess weight I've lost. (Can you tell I'm a bit of a geek?) Both the good and the bad weeks can be a source of motivation.
I try to stay away from white carbs--my favorite! I'll limit myself to one major carb serving a day. So this morning it was oatmeal, so no crackers at lunch. I'll still have my veggies and fruit, but no more grains. I think the carbs are the worst food group for me because I always want more.
I had a no loss week the week before last--due to munching and not exercising. This week was better--due to better eating and exercising. So that just reconfirmed for me that my efforts make a direct difference--even at 11 months out.
I can only imagine the challenges you have faced living in a hotel. It is tough to have the kind of control you need over your food when someone else is preparing it. I'm already thinking through what I'll do for the Christmas holidays when I go visit friends.
But it sounds like you are back on track, so congratulations and good going,
Sally
I agree about scales being off. A few years back I purchased a doctors type balance scale. But when I became over 350 I couldn't weigh myself on it. So when I got serious about weight loss and decided I could only do it with WLS, I purchased a digital scale that could register my weight. Well once I got under 350 I decided to stop taking out the digital scale every Monday and start using the balance scale which is already out( beside it seemed I had to step on the digital 3-4 times to get the same number twice), well the balance scale says I weigh 2.5lbs more. I think I will try the bag of flour thing. But when I switched scales I waited for a good weight loss week and now use the balance scale weight, but still I say to myself, I lost 2.5 lbs more than I record, lol.
