Motivation
I'm going to be speaking at my local support group about motivation and thought it would be interesting to hear from others what they found worked.
At first motivation isn't so much of an issue because of the surgery, but how what do you find helpful to keep yourself motivated? Is it different for eathing habits vs. exercise? Do rewards work for you?
Thanks in advance,
Sally
Sally,
My number one biggest motivator to keep exercising and not gain back the weight I've lost is that I don't want to be sick! I spent so many years as a prisoner of my weight with constant health problems. I really had a hard time walking. My future was not very bright as both of my parents who are only 62 and 63 and super morbidly obese cannot walk and have health issues that makes me realize they will both probably not see 70.
Exercise is the easiest habit forme to keep as I love it. The endorphins are a reward in itself. Controlling my eating is a daily struggle...but, I keep on keeping on.
By the way, you really look great!
Lori
Right now my biggest motivator is too get to goal. I am so afraid that I wont make goal. If I dont llose in a few days, I kick in and start doing more exercise and look at what I have been eating, Sometimes those carbs are slipping back in. I hope when I reach goal that my motivaition will be not to let myself gain any weight back. OH helps as I have no local support group. Good luck with your speech.
The thing that keeps me motivated is my support network. My family, friends, support group and this board have been an amazing source of encouragement to me. Last month I was thinking about skipping my support group since I was so tired and not feeling great. My mom was the one who pushed me to go (she calls me on the day of my support group and makes sure I am going to be there.) It turned out to be exactly what I needed.
Whenever I struggle or feel unmotivated I call a friend or a family member or post here and that someone gives me the boost I need. To me, it's all about community and support networks.
