WAS JUS****CHING THE NEWS AND SAYS THAT THE TAINTED PEANUT BUTTER CAME FROM OUR HOME TOWN... UGH.... THAT IS TERRIBLE... I LIVE EIGHT MILES FROM SYLVESTER AND MY MIDDLE DAUGHTER LIVES SO CLOSE TO THERE TILL YOU CAN SMELL THE PEANUTS IN THE AIR AT TIMES...I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PETER PAN CON AGRA FACTORY OUT THERE FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY TILL THIS ALL STARTED LAST WEEK... THEY ARE SAYING THAT MUST HAVE CAME FROM THE JARS BEING DIRTY WHEN FILLING THEM OR THE MACHINERY WAS DIRTY AT THE TIME. EITHER WAY, IT HAS HURT THE CRAP OUT OF THIS SMALL TOWN AND THE BUNSINESS NAME. ITS LIKE THE SPINACH THING ALL OVER AGAIN. SURE HOPE THEY CAN SURVIVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS BECAUSE WITH THIS BEING A  PEANUT INDUSTRY AROUND HERE, THAT IS MOST PEOPLES LIVELYHOOD. FROM THE PEANUT FARMERS TO THE FACTORY... JUST WANTED TO UPDATE YA'LL... SURE DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE EATTING NOW DAYS IF DOESNT COME OUT OF YOUR OWN GARDEN HUH>? BUT I AINT MARTHA STEWART SO.... HUGS MARGE

These things happen, Marge.  The factory will bounce back.  Remeber the Tylenol/cianide scare back in teh 80's.  Tylenol is doing fine these days.

Hugs, Marge these thinks happen. Probable more then we want to know. I am sure it will pass. I mean if nothing else they will change the name of the peanut butter. But I bet it will pass in a few months. I am sure they are cleaning that plant inside and out. And if it was in the jars. Maybe it came from the place that makes the jars.  Hugs. lov marie

I am sorry this will hurt the people in your town, but it is a reason why I try to be local and organic. I hope it makes people start thinking about the quality of our food, the safety of the workers, and how cheap prices frequently hurt the farmers.  I may pay more for my groceries, but it is worth it for me. Best of luck and here's to gardening! Sally

Marge, it may hurt in the short term, but I don't think it will hurt things long term.  If I were one who ate peanut butter, I wouldn't be afraid to get it from that particular factory.  Why?  Because I guarantee you it will be the cleanest peanut butter factory in America after this incident -- they will be very careful not to let it happen again. The Odwalla plant in Santa Cruz had a similar problem years ago with one of their juices -- it wasn't pasturized correctly and people got sick.  The factory  struggled for a very brief time, but now they are back to where they were before it happened. I love peanuts, so there's no way I could live in your area -- the peanut aroma would drive me mad! Kix
