Terrible day need encouragement
If I had to stick to a 800 cal a day diet and lose 70lbs before I had surgery then I wouldn't of needed surgery. You should be very proud of what you have accomplished. You stated that you doubled your exercise the last couple of weeks, remember muscle weights more than fat. I think your body just wants to hang on to the weight becauses it thinks it is starving. I bet if you up your calories like suggested the weight would start dropping off.
My doctor did not put me on any diet before my surgery and in fact I was at my highest on the day of surgery. This I think has actually made it harder because I didn't have any tapering off from my eating. I think it will be easier on you after your surgery! Hang in there! You are worth it!!

Hi Nancy,
Thank you! I agree that the diet might make it easier to adjust after surgery. I am going to try upping it a little bit, to 1000 or 1100, low/no carb for a week and continue working out. Maybe it'll jump start something. I did cheat some around week 6, for about a week. It was my birthday and I had two major presentations within a couple of days of each other an I totally blew it for a few days. I admitted that to him, but I also told him that I have followed it perfectly for the last two weeks, with exercise, and only lost 8 lbs. He said for my weight category, I should have lost 10-15. I thought about suggesting muscle and having them measure me again because I am losing inches. Several pairs of pants that I couldn't even zip before go on easily now, and one pair of jeans I bought three months ago now falls off me unless I belt it (with my super-special homeade fabric belt because I can't find a belt wide enough). But what's the point in arguing with him? I am proud of what I've done so far, and now that my mood is bouncing back I feel like I want to do extra well to spite him or something! Whatever mind games work for me, I'll use. Like he even really cares.

Argh, I am roasty toasty sunburned too! Stupid fair skin and bp meds that make you sensitive to the sun. Now instead of just being shaped like a tomato, I am colored like one too!
Ah hon, that is a sucky day
I'm so sorry you had to go through it - those kind of days are tough (and I know all too well about those hot San Antonio days!)
I've got to say, I think you losing 4 pounds a week is great! I'm not sure what his barometer is but I think he needs to adjust that. My surgeon had all this research he showed me when i first started looking into surgery about how difficult it is for obese people to loss weight with regular dieting - your body is just so use to the extra weight that it adjusts. Bariatric surgery seems to be the kick in the pants the body needs to get going. I loved his approach and he is one of those rare surgeons who actually has a good bedside manner! I owe him my life.
Keep up the good work and don't give up! You will get there and it will be all worth it in the long run - you can always come up here to vent!

PJ- I want your doctor!! 4 lbs a week is a lot, I think. Overall, for 8 weeks on the diet it averages to 3 lbs per week, which is still nothing to sneeze about. I am sure some people lose more and some lose less & maybe if I'd followed it better I'd be one of the "good" ones. Its all fine, he's just doing his job. I wish he would just do the open surgery now instead of waiting for me to get to 370 to do laparoscopic. The more I thought about it this evening, the more I accepted that it might not happen this summer. It will be a lot more complicated if I have to have the surgery in the fall - classes instead of just lab work, but I'll manage.
I can't imagine that starving for 5 months before surgery is good for healing, but what do I know? I'm sure losing weight is good for healing, so it probably evens out.
We had to buy a new car battery. At least it was nothing too serious. One of the cells was very much deceased. Booo Fords. They are nothing but trouble.
Jenn:
I am so sorry for your bad day yesterday. What ever you do DO NOT GIVE UP. The more weight that you lose pre surgery the easier it will be on you. Not only that once you have the surgery the pounds will melt away and you will be so glad that you took off the extra.
I know that dieting is hard, after all we all got this way and if it was easy...
Hang in there, follow what your doc wants you to do and pray. You will make it and be on the loser's bench before you know it.
Jeanne
