I got my approval notice yesterday . The surgeon has re-scheduled my pre-op for 9/7, and my surgery is still on for my birthday, 9/11. That is, unless I don't pass the appeal hearing to keep the danged insurance that happens next Tuesday. I don't know how long it will take them to make the decision, or when they can cut me off. But I have three providers who have written letters to support me, so I have a teensy bit of hope. All I need is to get past 9/11 before they dump me. Hurdle #1 - passed Hurdle #2 - pending Anxiety - priceless -Julie

Julie: I don't know if this is true with all insurance companies, but I do know that at my HMO, folks were approved for WLS and because of the backlog of patients waiting to be enrolled in the pre-op classes, many people found that their insurance coverage changed because it went from one calendar year to the next.  There were several people in my surgery class who were worried that they would not be covered for WLS because they received letters stating that their HMO coverage no longer included a WLS rider.  It turns out that whatever their coverage said at the time they were actually approved for WLS, that's what the HMO provided even if their coverage had changed by the surgery date. So (long story not so short), perhaps you will have a similar outcome because you have already been approved for the surgery.  They may have no choice but to grandfather your surgery and cover it completely, regardless of how your hearing turns out.  This might be something to explore. I'll keep swinging those chickens and chanting, and your job is to keep the faith.  I do believe this will all work out. Kix

What wonderful news--even just one step in the right direction is a good thing.  Here's to good news on Tuesday. How is the other possible job thing coming?  Any news? Sally
