Gladiator Smoothie?!?

For the past few days I have been feeling like hell.  Dizzy and light headed.  I felt like I was regressing instead of progressing.  I know I have written many times before that I am struggling with getting in the protein shakes.  So I am guessing my symptoms are a combination of the shock my body is in and a lack of nutrition.  The way I describe this little "fits" I am having is that they are what I'd imagine having a low blood sugar feels like.  So this morning I had some watered down cranberry juice and this afternoon, I decided to pick up a gladiator smoothie from Smoothie King.  Ok - the thing is delicious and I am having a hard time believing something that tastes this good has 45 grams of protein!!   Do I have some fellow Gladiator Smoothie friends out there? If so, did they sneak up on you and cause you some troubles?  That is what I am afraid of - I fall in love with this "protein drink" and then all of a sudden it kicks my tail.   Opinions welcomed!!!

The protein info looks good, and low carb but be careful with whatever fruit or juice or whatever that you pick.  I don't know what options you chose but they may be very sweet and cause you to dump or if they have little seeds or anything like (strawberries, raspberries) that could cause you problems so early out.  What options did you get?  I could look at the total nutritional info that way and let you know what I think.

I got strawberry and yep, it had seeds.  Note to self I am going to get bannana or something seedless next time.  I started sipping on it at 10:30 am and took a break from it since 12 pm and I don't seem to be having any negative digestive reactions - yet!  I did go on their website and it specifically talks about Gladiator smoothies and gastric bypass patients.  It is just sooooo good and sooooo easy to get down.  I don't want the let down in a few hours because I can forsee a ride to the Smoothie King everyday.  I know they sell the protein mix, but I'd bet it doesn't taste the same as getting it made by them.

Well as long as you don't go overboard on the sweet and it settles well and doesn't cause digestive upset, it looks like a good option to me.  You can also have them add soluble fiber and/or vitamins to it, just for an extra bit of nutritional value.  They say the fiber blend adds 8g of soluble fiber.  You might really appreciate that later on when you have constipation issues like many of us do.  Generally getting enough fiber has been one of my biggest challenges post-op.  You won't know if you are a dumper until it happens, but I am, especially off fruit.  Bananas and mangoes tend to bother me less than others and might be good choices for you because they don't have seeds.  Mango also has a lot of good nutritional properties.  Be careful of really fibrous things like pineapple so early out though, even pureed they'd possibly pose a problem.  Strawberries are low on the glycemic index and will be a good choice for you farther out once you are cleared for raw fruits and veggies with skins and seeds.  I hope it works out for you because getting enough protein will definitely make a difference in how you are feeling - dizzy and lightheaded.  Also, dehydration can cause this.

Wow, after reading the nutritional info I'm going to check one of these out! There happens to be a Smoothy King between work and home. Zero sugars and 45 grams of protein ... sounds great to me! Also doesn't sound possible if I have to be realistic.

I know what you mean - it is almost too good to be true, but I tell you since I drank that smoothie I feel so much better.  So whatever it has in it worked for me!  I hope it settles well for you too.  It is delish!

Glad to hear that you found something that you really liked.  When I talked with the nurse at my surgery center she said that the symptoms you described were also part of the "fat burning process" and normal.  I don't know though, it sounded like you really needed the nutrition that you got in the Smoothie.  I wish that there was a smoothie king near my house.  A banana protein shake sounds really good right now.  Anything but these dang slimfasts (trying to finish the pack before I switch to the Atkins).

There is one that people rave about on the DS board called Banana Scream made by Champion.  You can get it on Vitalady.com. I think someone also gets it on amazon.com.  It is what I am going to get next after I am done with the ones I have. Jennifer

Hmmm...is it served by a cute Gladiator?  I went one time and threw out the smoothie I bought.  Tasted like crap.  I do like smoothies and my machine at home broke so I'm missing my treat.  I'm going to try that one this weekend.  thanks for the tip.

OK, so I went and tried the Gladiator Smoothie this weekend - I had a Banana Strawberry, got the smallest (wow expensive) one that had and boy oh boy was it yummy! It was very filling, took over an hour for me to fini**** My husband tried it, liked the flavor but said it wasn't cold enough for him. Thanks for passing this info on, this will be a nice treat for me every so often.
