Recovering from surgery on 2/11/09

Hi everybody! I am so glad that surgery is over and recovry has started! Everything went excellently! I felt more like myself after they disconnected the Diloted in the PCA pump. My mind was clearer and they put me on Percs. Everyone was wonderful to me and aside from the (gag) jello  ( I hate jello!) the hospital post op bari Diet was good. Chicken broth and gleucerna were excellent. I went home on Valentines day at 3 p.m. and I went to church the next morning. I have been laying low other than that. I have been doing some stitching and watching movies..... I have to remember to take my pain meds and not do too much. I already feel better than I did before the surgery so I am so excited that I am having a hard time laying low.

I made a chart to keep track of my fluids and nutrition as well as medications and I am glad for the visual so I can really know what I've had.

I have had a LOT of BURPS!!!! Some hiccups too. I am only taking 1 perc three times a day so I am glad about that!

I was worried I would have a NG tube in my nose or something like that and I was so glad that I did not... Phew!  They took out the drain before I left, and I changed the dressing once before I left and once after I got home and it hasn't drained anything else since.... Phew!  They took the wick out Saturday morning and it didn't drain anything after that....

I forced myself to make sure I did everything they asked me to do, knowing it would be good for me..... Get out of bed..... brush your teeth, wash up..... all those things are the road back to feeling normal and I felt more incharge of myself and my recovery.  I spent the night in the PACU (Post Anestesia Care Unit) because they did not have any beds available on the floor where WLS patients go to. My surgery began at 3 on Wednesday and was over and the surgeon was speaking with my family by 6 p.m. So I guess it was about 2.5 hours long.  My family was able to see me for a little while but it was getting late.  I can't say enough good about my care at the hospital.

My first roomate was leaving as I arrived and I misssed her leaving because I was zonked out from the pain meds...... Then my new roomate came later in the day after her surgery Thursday. We wound up the same age and we liked quiet and not a lot of TV so we were perfect roomates for each other.

Thanks for all the great messages, thoughts and prayers that we sent for me! I really appreciate them!

I hope all the others who had surgery that day are doing as well or better!
