Ok guys I need/have to get up and get this old rump moving. Since my surgery is in November I can't imagine getting outside and walking as much as I need to druing December and January and possibly February. So my question is this does anyone know of where I could look since I live in the middle of no where in southern Illinois of where I could get a good but cheap treadmill??? Just wondering. Thanks alot. Take care, Anita

I was thinking about buying a bike or treadmill. Which one do you think is better?

I have the greatest piece of equipment in the world a Gazelle Edge. It is no impact and does just as much as a bike or treadmill if not more, plus it is zero impact on knees, hips, ankles, back, everything. It was super cheap too, $98.99 at my local ShopKo. I use it as often as I can. It is great. I don't get as winded or as sore as I did on the treadmill or the elliptical at the gym. You might check into that. Here is the site where you can check it out if you want to http://www.tonylittle.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=31 I hope you find something that works for you. Jeremy

Thanks for the tip. I thought his equipment had 'weight limits' though. Did I misunderstand? I was going to try and get a treadmill to use post-op too. Huggs, Ruth

Just a couple of suggestions for anyone. One, if exercise is difficult right now (joint problems, swelling, etc.), a good alternative is chair dancing. You can order a workout chair dancing video at www.chairdancing.com (no, I don't own stock, nor am I affliated with the company). Two, I swear by my Curves workout. I love it. It's a wonderful, non-intimidating, user friendly atmosphere. I started working out at 395lbs and all the machines held me just fine. Curves was perfect when the summer was so hot and it was too miserable to go outside to try and walk. Likewise, I'm sure I'll be glad to be in a dry place when it's wet and rainy during the winter. I had my surgery last November 22,2004. When I first got out of the hospital I could still walk outside as it got colder and snowy I went to the malls and stores like walmart and walked in there. Back then it did not take much to get my heart rate up. By the end of January I had lost enough and joined a heath club with a swimming pool and started water aerobics. By Easter I was able to ride my bicycle.
