I need Sleep Study Info please..
Hi everyone..
I am getting ready to schedule mine out of town where my surgeon is located and I also want to see the nutritionist that same day to save a trip.... So I was trying to plan ahead to see how long I would be down there.
My questions are...
Is it done overnight? Does it last for a couple hours or for the entire night? How long did yours last?
Thanks,
Kay
hi kay,
I had my sleep study done in july. I believe you have to stay all night. The tech told me you need at least 5 hours of sleep for a study. you better take your comb, gf, cuz the glue/cement that they use to put the leads on your head gave me terrible tangles!! it wasnt too hard to sleep in a strange place though. it was a little weird knowing that someone was watching my every move....and monitoring EVERY sound
it was a piece of cake. Good Luck on yours!!

HI Kay,
I had to have two sleep study's so I have lots of information for you. Here is what happened for me.
My first sleep study: I can tell you that I had to stay overnight. They usually ask you to be there by 9 pm (for where I went). To make yourself more comfortable - you can take your own pillows. And make sure that you pack an over night bag. And I always brought something to read to make me relax. And I also got there early so I could relax a little bit before they took me back. They hook you put to about 25-30 wires. They are not painful they just need to monitor you. They need to get 6 hours of monitoring of your breathing, heart rate and oxygen levels. They also watch you on camera I just ignored it. The only way it will bother you is if you think about it alot. The place I was at even had a shower in the room for in the morning.
My second sleep study was the same except for having the Cpap machine on me.
If you have any other questions please let me know.
Monica F.
Mine was pretty much exactly like Monica's.
I also had two studies done. Arrived around 8pm, woke me up at 6am. Also had a shower in the room, but I waited until I got home.
The first one for me was horrible. I couldn't get comfortable at all. Didn't sleep much.
The second one, I also had the cpap on, and I couldn't believe the difference! Much much better!
Best wishes to you.

had to stay overnite, too. if they tell you it's sleep apnea, it's another comorbidity for your insurance company to consider. the hardest part for me was falling asleep with all the wires attached and then, once i fell asleep, they'd wake me up to try and get me to use the cpap.
good luck, kay. it's just another hoop you get to jump through before surgery. lots of luck
