Upper GI question, Please!
Hi Ladies
Me and my WLS buddy (Hi Concella) are in the Testing process right now. We are having Upper GI's soon and want to know your experiance. We have heard that some are put to sleep, some people drink some kind of drink and other things. We are a little scared!
So.. Please tell us your experiance when you had this procedure and how it was done..
We really appreciate it.
Thanks Again
Kay
greetings!
i was awake. i stood in front of some machine, drank some chalky liquid, they took some pictures. then i had to put some crystal-type stuff in my mouth, drink something (i think water) quickly, which got the crystals kind of fizzing -- more pictures taken...and it was over!
nothing hard, nothing frightening.
best of luck to you both!

Hi there, I am not sure if this is the same thing or not, but I didn't have an upper GI, I had to have an Endoscopy, that is when they put you to sleep and go through your mouth and down your throat with a camera to check everythying out. The procedure itself was a piece of cake, but that crap they spray down your throat to numb it is enough to make you
. It is REALLY nasty. Good luck!

I had an upper GI a few weeks ago. There was really nothing to it. The only uncomfortable part was rolling around on that table and feeling like I was going to fall off. I had to drink the thick barium solution and some stuff that was like alka-seltzer. It makes you constipated but that will pass in a few days. Just drink plenty of water. I am from Hendersonville and I know your surgeon. Please email me so I can give you some background. He was actually my first choice in surgeons.
Hi Kay.
I had both, and Upper GI and and Endoscopy. I work for a group of Radiologist and no you won't be put to sleep for the Upper GI. You drink some nasty tasting stuff and they can whatch it go thru your system on a screen. Some place have you laying on a table and some have you stand but it's painless.
Hope this helps.
Veronica
