I need ya'lls help. I am going to be going to the Dr. within the next 2 weeks and I really need to drop some weight. Not a HUGE amount but enough. I was told to try the liquid diet. And I know that some Dr's will put their patients on a liguid diet 2 weeks before their surgery. My questions is what did you have to consist of your liquid diet???? And and all help would really be appricated!!! Thanks & God Bless Melissa

Melissa, Good luck with a liquid diet! Honestly that was the hardest part of the whole pre-op hassle for me.. I was so hungry!! Lucky my dr only required 48hours of liquids! I was allow anything that could you could sip through a straw.. I loved the chicken broth- it gave me the taste like I was eating and also was quite filling.. I was also allowed jello and popsicles on my liquid.. My liquid diet was also a bit different then most because I have a problem with low blood sugar.. So I had to be careful not to let it get too low or Id pass out.. Not fun!! Good luck.... how much do you want/need to drop before your appt?? Amber

Amber I really dont have a set amount. I would love to lose anything. lol But I am sure you know what I mean. Thanks for the information. I think that is the only thing that is stopping me from trying the all liquid diet. Is I am afraid that I will really feel hungry all the time. And I will end up giving up. I will keep everyone posted. I appricate your input tho. Melissa

Dear Melissa, I had to be on liquids for two weeks as well. I found I liked Campbell's cream of chicken soup and the cream of shrimp. I struggled with any clam chowder (which I love) because I wanted to eat the clams and potatoes! I had to strain the soup and immediately throw away--or give to the dog--the solids. I did mostly soups for lunch and dinner with yogurt or Malt o'Meal for breakfast. I did use the sugarfree popsicles for the munchies. I would sometimes make the soup with skim milk, but milk sometimes makes my face break out, so I go with the low fat soy milk. It wasn't the easiest of times, even for just two weeks, but the surgery has gone so well for me, it was worth it. Oh, and I would treat myself once each week to a shake--something to look forward to. Best of luck, Sally

Melissa, My doctor had me on a "clear" liquid diet for 1 week prior to my surgery. But, she did let me have protein drinks. I could have the EAS CarbAdvantage drinks. They are about 100 calories and 15 grams of protein and zero carbs. I could have up to 4 a day. The rest of the day I had sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, any broth, I liked the chicken with a bit of lemon squeezed into it and I also liked mushroom. I could also have fruit juice (1/2 juice, 1/2 water). Then herbal teas and crystal lite as well as as much water as I could drink! You really need it when you aren't eating. I do recommend having the protein drinks, they aren't great, but, they give you the protein you need to function. You will be hungry...headachy, that is just how it is. Once you have had the surgery and they put you on this diet for the first week or so, it will be much easier, believe me! Good Luck! Lori 381/263/168

Hi Melissa, For my preop diet I had 2 days of liquids which consisted of SF Jello, Sf Pudding, cream soups (strained) broths, SF popsicles and fudgesicles, water, crystal light ( generic Walmart version), frozen yogurt mixed with milk and put in blender for a shake. How much weight are you trying to lose before your appointment? Hope this helps!! Take care, Anita

Anita I would love to lose around 10 lbs. But right now I will take anything. I went in to weigh today it is says I gained 4 lbs. Needless to say I wasnt very happy nor was I a very pretty person to be around. DH says I scared him because he has never seen me to upset and discourged. But I am over it and switching gears. I did find out that I have lost approx 1 1/2 inches from my neck and 6 from my waist. So I guess thats a plus for me. I think alot of the problem with me is I am on Phentermine to help me lose weigh and so far in 2 months I have lost almost 40lbs. I just dont get hungry so I dont eat. But maybe one meal a day and I know that cant be healthy for me either. I did better when I ate my 3 small meals a day @ certain times. Didnt snack after 8pm and was on a schedule. And drank appox 80 to 100 oz a day. So I think I need to get back with that program. Thanks for the infomation and concerns. Melissa
