Any long term Slow Smo's?
I am feeling in the pits today. I will be 11 weeks out tomorrow and have lost between 45 and 50 pounds. (depending what day I weigh) OK I know I am not suppose to weigh everyday but since I am not going to stop........
Anyway. I am just wondering if there is anyone out there that started out slow but still was able to make it to their goal. I keep being told by "lightweights" that the heavier you are the faster you lose well that is not happening with me ... I just want to know that it is possible to get where I want .
Sorry if this is rambling but i hope it sounds right.
*Also I get 80 oz of water a day
60-75 oz of protein
low fat and carbs
exerciseing on the treadmill 2x a day for 20 min. each
Thanks Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,
I too feel like I am losing at a slow rate. There are weeks where I don't loose anything and then others where I might loose 4 lbs. I am only eight weeks out and feel very frustrated. I am always analyzing what I am doing to see what I need to change. I excercise on a recumbant bike for 30 min. five or six days a week and do light strength training on three days (just about 15 min. at this stage). I drink 64 oz. water and get 70+ grams of protein a day. The only carbs I eat are in the two Rye Crisp crackers I eat once a day and the odd bits I get from other low-fat ingredients. I keep wondering what I am doing wrong.
I have struggled to get in more calories, generally in the 550 to 650 range, so I am going to add some skim milk. I don't want to add too many, but I also don't want to sabatoge myself by eating too few. Also, I have been drinking a soy protein powder mixed with light soy milk for breakfast during the week, but after doing some reading on soy, I might drop that. I am always looking for an easy high-protein breakfast.
I do get discouraged as I am 12 lbs. more than my surgeon said I should be at this point. But I keep focusing on my behavioral goals--eating right and exercising--and not the weight goals which seem to be more out of my control! I started out at a higher weight than you, so I too thought I would be losing faster. So disappointing. But if I can keep building good habits even when disappointed then sometime it will pay off!
Keep at it--slow and steady does eventually win the race,
Sally
Jennifer,
I feel the same way. I have only lost 52 lbs and I feel like I had to fight for every pound. I know this is not a magic cure, but I thought since I started as a "SMO" I would loose faster. I exercise every morning on the Treadmill for 45 minutes and I walk at lunch, and it's just soooo slow. Don't get me wrong... I FEEL GREAT!! I have had no complications and I can walk forever now. I am soooooo happy I had the surgery. I guess I'm just disappointed at the slow weight lost.
I'm sure it will pick up for us. We just have to keep at it.

Thanks ladies,
I hate that you are going through this but maybe we can help each other out. I guess we just have to keep up what we are suppose to and eventually it will happen. I know if you eat at this rate long enough you have to lose right??
My husband was against the surgery for me for so long because he said I didn't eat alot to start with and lowering it some was not going to help me... I am scared he was right. I know that is not resonable but when weeks like this happen it starts to creep into the old mind.
WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!!
Jennifer
Jennifer, I see what you have done, and I am encouraged that I too might be someday looking at myself loosing that much! Ok, it might not be as fast as you desire... but it is loosing... not gaining. I wonder how your doctor feels about your loss to far? Do they have any suggestions?
I am thinking of you today..... hope you'll have peace and joy throughout your day!
Big hugs,
Aunt Pam
Jennifer,
I have been a slow and steady loser since my surgery last May. Many folks in my support group have been losing much faster than me, but, I think I will be better off in the long run. I don't have that look of super rapid weight loss, the hair and skin problems that they do. Anyway, my surgery was May 23, 2005. I lost 20 lbs just prior to the surgery and 103 since. Sometimes I get discouraged, but, I know I'm doing the right thing with exercise, protein intake and vitamins and water. We just need to hang in there. You weight loss seems fine to me!
