Hope everyone is having a great week!  I had gallbladder removal surgery last week and it sucked.  This meant I did nothing for Easter or my Birthday, but I'm finally starting to feel better!

High weight: 378

Weight at 1st WLS consult 7/13/15: 363

Weight day of surgery: 339

4/2/16: 239!!!! (This was one of my mini goals - down 100 pounds from surgery!!  This is also my lowest adult weight since college!!!)

Next goal: 228 (down 150 pounds from highest)

For every goal I hit I purchase a new charm for a Pandora charm bracelet, so this weekend I purchased 2 charms (one for hitting 250, and one for hitting 239)!  Yay for non-food rewards!

HW: 378 | 1st Consult: 363 | Surgery: 339 | CW: 182

Topic: RE: Pre Op Liquid Stomach Pain

I have to do a 3 week protein liquid diet as well. I am dreading it after hearing so many bad things about it. I still have 2 months to go before I have to do it. Right now just in the dieting phase. 1000 calories a day with protein. Tomorrow is my start day. Should have started Wednesday when I left my initial consult but I didn't have the proper things I needed to start. So tomorrow it is on. It's going to be hard but I have to stay focused and motivated. I know you can do it though. You got this. Just think about the blessing that you are receiving after this liquid diet is over. That is what keeps me going. Knowing that I will have a chance to start living and enjoying life. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress. Be blessed. ;-)

Please do your research. The SADI gets mixed reviews. HERE is a comparison from the DSFacts website.

Search here for lots of threads on the subject. Also research your surgeon. If I were doing the DS, I would want the true DS, not the SADI.

Make the best decision for YOU. Good luck!!

Lots and lots of us, but not necessarily here. That surgeon did you a favor - many only do RNY (faster to learn, and perform, so makes them more money) so the DS may not be recommended or even mentioned even it it would be clearly better for the patient. Although, you may want to clarify it really is the DS, and not one of several new things they are doing and calling them DS (SIPS, SADI, Loop-DS).

The real DS, sometimes called the bpd-ds, has the best stats for weight loss, maintenance of that loss, and resolution of co-morbs, but you have to commit to taking vitamins and following your labs.

Also, you will be dodging a few other common issues if you don't get RNY, like dumping syndrome and reactive hypoglycemia.

Flavors are going to be very subjective, so I don't have any recommendations on that. What I do advise is to focus on the ones that are whey isolate and steer clear of the ones that are concentrate. After surgery, isolate will give you the most protein bang for your buck because it's more easily absorbed than concentrate. I guarantee you that will knock out at least half of the choices.

If you don't want to get stuck with a tub of something you don't like, check out Vitamin Shoppe if you have a local one. They have a pretty good return policy and sometimes have small sample size packets.

Good luck!

I was all Gung ho for RNY.....really did a lot of research and knew this was the way I wanted to go.....then at my first visit with my surgeon,  he says he wants me to research the DS. He thinks it would be a good fit for me since my BMI is 54.  Looking for a buddy who's had the DS, thinking about having the Ds, etc..

I used body fortress chocolate flavored. It was pretty good. I didn't like 6 stars, it had a funny texture

I thought I would try to add some protein powder to my mornibg smoothies to get used to the taste. I went to walmart and was overwhelmed by the many varieties.  Looking for recommendations!
