It's the worst isn't it!, I guess this is that time when you really have to dig in!

Maybe you should try maintenance for awhile, then come back to losing those last 6 pounds, just be careful of the bounce back I've seen so many post about.

High weight 275

Last week 166

This week 166

Goal for next week 165

Final Goal 160

I know I need to lower my caloric intake back to 800-900 to lose the remaining 6 pounds but my body is fighting--I don't feel great, nasty & snappy attitude all day, so I am weighing the pros and cons of the remaining 6 pounds.

Yes, these clearly are your opinions, because the actual facts don't support what you are saying. Please don't share such inaccurate information on a site where people are trying to learn about things that can affect their health for the rest of their lives.

The DS is more effective in those with a BMI over 50 for both weight loss, maintenance and resolution of co-morbidities, but is also more effective in all groups.

As far as complications, it is statistically the same as RNY, although RNY does have higher incidence of things like dumping syndrome and reactive hypoglycemia. Both of these surgeries will take more supplements (although maybe not quite the same ones) than the sleeve.

BMI requirements are the same for all 3 surgeries - 35Bmi with co-morbs, or 40bmi.

Also, few competent surgeons do the DS in 2 surgeries anymore. There is no reason, and a second surgery is unnecessary risk.

As to the OP, my stomach is a sleeve (as part of the DS) and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm satisfied with small meals, and the sleeve is as problem free as any WLS. My only consideration with it and why I instead got the DS, was that I already ate small meals and was careful what I ate, and knew I had a very efficient metabolism. I did not have issues with portion control, but if I did, the sleeve alone is likely what I would have done.

Keep doing your research, as you have to live with whatever surgery you pick, not your family, or surgeon, or anyone else. I love facts, and read every real study I could find on WLS. If you want links to any of the medical studies (where some of my info above is from) let me know.

4 pounds down this week, just finished week 5 of Optifast. They did a body composition study of me at the start, and at the end of week 4. I'd lost 17 pounds of fat, and 1 pound of muscle mass. Given that I have a LOT of muscle mass (nearly 150 pounds, more than my goal weight just in muscle!) this sounds reasonable to me.

This weekend I'm doing a solo weekend trip to Disney. Well, maybe solo, my mom might join me one of the two days. I plan on doing a lot of walking, I always do at theme parks. Also, since I'm Optifast I'm bringing my food with me. It actually travels easily, and I'll definitely be saving on money without spending on over-priced theme park food!

VSG versus RNY/DS:  I am not a veteran WLSer nor am I a medical professional.  What I have is four years of personal experience attending a variety of in-person support group meetings listening/observing and almost daily visits to WLS-related internet sites. Your surgeon has given you his RNY recommendation; it feels like a disservice not to suggest for you to revisit that.  Why? Your odds are considered better with the RNY and it may be wise for you to ponder the idea odds trump comfort level.

It's been a pretty good few weeks for me. I need to work on getting more sleep, but my food intake and activity level have been good. My goal is to maintain. I will be turning 50 in a few months so that is a good motivator!!

Today is my 1 year surgiversary. WooHoo

I actually joined a gym this week. My first exercise since I started this journey. The classes kicked my tail. And my thighs would have been willing to commit murder I think. But overall,  I will enjoy it. What I won't enjoy is the water weight gain that comes from new exercise.  I had actually broken the 90s decade and finally hit 189. But I rocketed back up to 195 at the start of the week.

I have a friend who got me into mountain biking. When I got my first flat, he changed it for me. When I got my second one, he said. I'll guide you, but you are doing it yourself. Which I did. He showed me how to cut the old inner tube to line the tire before putting the new inner tube in. Haven't had a flat since. Sadly he won't bike with me because I am too much of a novice and it isn't fun for him. LOL I'm not ready for big rock gardens I'm still working on a track stand
