Pee next to litterbox
My cat peed next to her litterbox yesterday. What's that all about? I know I know, it could be crystals in her urine, an UTI, a change in the household or just because she felt like it. She did that once before when we lived in Salt Lake City and I couldn't figure out why she did it. I had even taken her to the vet who confirmed no infection or crystals in her urine. The upstair neighbor had just gotten a dog that barked all day long so I chalked it up to that. But now I don't know why she is doing it. I can't take a house smelling like urine. If it continues, she may just become an outside cat. I hate to do that because other cats might beat her up or get hit by a car. Then I'll have to get her regular shots. I don't get them since she's in the house all the time. The vet told me to feed her moist food so I make sure I pu****er on her food and also give her canned food every other day. Nothing has changed so I don't know what's up with her. I have been a little crazy lately because I'm having my surgery in 11 days. Could she be feeling my anxiety? Maybe..
Yeah my cats do this too at times. Sometimes I think it is because they track litter out of the box, then go on the tracked litter. Sometimes I know I don't keep the box clean enough. However sometimes they might not like the brand of litter. So perhaps try changing that. Then sometimes I think they get "ticked" at us and want us to suffer for whatever it is they "THINK" we did to them.
I know how you feel. I have 4 cats and sometimes one of them will decide that they don't think the litter box is clean enough for them. I scoop it on a daily basis but sometimes that just doesn't satisfy them. Also, I have an old cat who if you **** him off by moving him on the house or not feeding him when he wants it will go and pee on something of yours. Needless to say, we do what he wants. Then there is the medical reasons for it. Of course, crystals in the urine or a UTI. But another thing is diabetes. Yeap, alot of people don't think of that. My 13 yr old is diabetic too. Sometimes he just doesn't make it to the box and goes right outside of the box. It would be a good idea to have her urine and bloodwork checked to rule out those medical conditions. I would hate for your kitty to be put out doors for something that truley wouldn't be her fault. Another suggestion, have you changed the brand of litter lately? Some cats don't like you to change the brand. Find one that she likes and stick to it. Also, to clean up cat urine, there is a product called Nature's Miralce, it can be found in PetSmart and it works wonders! We carry it in the clinic that I worked in. Also, there is a produce called FeliOWay which can be found at PetSmart or a vet's office. It comes a a pump bottle or as a plug in like and it is supposed to release pheromones that relax your cat and stop it from urinating outside the box. I use both of this produts and I have seen wonderful results. Good luck to you and i hope kitty stops peeing outside the box.
Hi there. I had a cat that would do the same thing. Tazi would go right beside his litter box when he was mad, the box wasn't clean enough for him or when I went out of town and left him with my grandparents (even though he loved my Grandfather to death!) I guess he missed me.
Cats are definitely tempermental but oh so worth it. The cat I have now (Tazi passed away several years ago) has never gone anywhere but her littler box. I even got her one of the self cleaning litter Maid litter boxes and it is great.
At Bed Bath and Beyond there is a product called Incredible that works miracles on carpets and removes pet odors as well. It is $5 give or take a $1 per bottle.
Good luck to you.
My sister has a kitty who pees standing up. She just started this not too long ago, and the pee "arcs" right out of the litter box. She is really old though, and the vet said its because she is uncomfortable when she pees now. I would call your vet and ask them just to be sure. It could just be like you said, the dog barking or believe it or not kitty may sense your anxiousness, also like you said. Good luck!
