Are Orange cats USUALLY males?
I have four cats. I lost my much beloved Lucas last October 9th and I'm still broken up over it. I've lost alot of animals over my life time but this one has really cut deeper than I dreamed possible. Anyway, my next cat is four weeks old today. I can't wait until he/she comes to live with me in around two more weeks. I've heard that Calicos are almost always females. (I have two and they are females). I had an Orange cat 10 years ago and it was a HE. Anyway, I have all my animals, male or female fixed. NO EXCEPTIONS. However almost all my animals are females, which I prefer. However I have one tom cat yet, and seeing my house is overrun with females (lol, not trying to offend anyone) I'd love to have another tom. I've decided to call my kitten "Utah" which in the language of the Ut indians means "people of the mountains".
But at four weeks old "things" are not very "developed DOWN there" and I can't tell if IT is a little guy or girl. So are Orange cats USUALLY males? Thanks.

First of all, I hope you enjoy your new kitten!! My experience is that calicos are almost always female - and orange cats are almost always male. Of course, there are always exceptions. We had an orange female - but she was hard to find!I just got a new calico kitten a week ago. The mother had abandoned the litter at 2 weeks old and my friend bottlefed them. I took Miss Chickapea at 5 weeks because her 5 brothers and sisters were picking on her and she wasn't getting much food. She's growing like crazy and is precious!! I, also, have a tortie Maine coon Tigger and a black cat Peepers. Good luck!!
I have 4 cats as well My Calico Nikki (female) Passed away last October so I feel your pain on that one sometimes I even think I see her walking by then realize it's one of the others. Anyway right before Nikki got sick we adopted a little orange tabby and even though we knew that they are usually makes we couldn't tell, We had to bottle feed this one it was so tiny. Anyway we finally decided to name it Maggie and guess what one day everything just kind of dropped and Maggie was no more female than my Thirteen year old son LOL. Anyway he was about 3 months old before we could tell late bloomer I guess. We couldn't get used to calling him Mikey and he just looked at us like who is Mikey, so Maggie stuck. Oh well just thought I would share my Orange tabby story.
I have an Orange Tabby named Butterscotch, and he's a male. I have heard from many different sources (vets, animal shelters, etc.) that most (not all) orange cats are male. I've also heard they can be among the most affectionate, and I certainly believe that after Butterscotch came into my life.
I extend my sympathy to you on your loss of Lucas. Cats all certainly have their own personality and become such a big part of our lives.
Utah will be a great new addition to your family.
